  1. Nonsense, thank you for your feedback. We will monitor the quality of the posts more closely, and I'm sure our more experienced members will direct repeat questions to the relevant threads so as to prevent duplicate postings. Dear ezzo, perhaps we Singaporeans can all read more and complain less, then probably our government would trust us with less rules. We're trying to prevent profiteering, not people from getting conned. And I can safely say we have achieved our aim.
  2. Though it is apparent that we do not police the quality of postings stringently, you are encouraged to post constructively. Suggestions quoted from my post above: Our new members can start by asking questions or for recommendations, or just posting simple impressions of their gear, or even share the joy of their latest CD purchase. I, for one, think that ruminating and querying is a better way to start this hobby and gain experience, compared to buying and selling. That should come in a bit later, and 50 posts might be a good benchmark for our members.
  3. papaya, I'm surprised by the harshness of your tone. You may disagree vehemently with chynakym, but there's really no need to condescend. Not that I question the validity of your comments, but there should be a better way to put it across. Let's keep things civil from now on.
  4. Please post in the appropriate forum, and refrain from posting multiple threads with the same content. You can bump your post instead.
  5. Stay cool, guys. I'll keep this thread open since discussions have been civil so far, albeit a little tense and OT. I've been wanting to hear the flats as well but they're too expensive at >$50 for a pair of foam. Besides, they seem to do nothing for comfort. There's a thread on Head-fi offering a comparison (and pics, IIRC) of all the pads, so those interested can seek that out.
  6. Looks promising. Should have been the original "shuffle killer".
  7. I remember seeing this at one of the MJ or CD-RAMA stores. I think it's the now-defunct CD-RAMA at Orchard MRT. Perhaps you can get them to check their database to see which store stocks a copy.
  8. You might want to consider getting rkivie's Grado SR-60 in the Classifieds. I am pretty sure if's better than all the cans you listed, but do note that it's open (leaks sound) and might not be the most suitable for portable use except in quiet environments.
  9. Bump for forum newbies. Also, a gentle reminder. You are advised to update your classifieds threads with the corresponding status of your sale/interest check/purchase. For example, if your item has sold/is pending sale, please edit your thread title accordingly, as well as update your thread to reflect its status.
  10. There is no requirement to post WTB threads. Anyway, topic moved.
  11. This is, after all, an expensive investment, and it is in the interest of all contemplating the iMod to know what they really want. If you really want high fidelity portable audio, the iMod might just be your best bet. But then again, i wonder how much better it sounds compared to a pocketdock + IC (and other similar offerings including more high end ones from the likes of ALO), especially with the usual limitations of portable audio and gear. I have mentioned that if portable use is not a priority, there are better alternatives. I stress this because there are some who believe that the iMod is great value since it is competent both as a home or portable source. Unfortunately, your home rig would not sound its best with an iMod even if you use lossless files all the time (and this is not feasible as it will affect battery life and the "mechanical lifespan"). Cost and "worthiness" will always come into play as I believe most of us have a limited budget and would like to maximise it in line with our personal priorities. In this world of diminishing returns, it's always good to ask yourself how much you are willing to pay for that 5-10% of improvement. If for that same money, you can get something else which will greater benefit your overall head-fi experience (i.e. both your home and portable rigs), then perhaps the decision is not so clear cut afterall. And finally, it's not only about age or aesthetics, but functionality as well if you consider the improvements that have been made with every new iPod generation. But like many mentioned above, if sound quality is the prime objective, perhaps the bliss of sound can undermine the disappointment you feel when you see your friend with the latest iPod with a host of new functions, a touch screen, smaller size, longer battery life, and cooler look.
  12. For the prices quoted above, I'd rather get a better amp to use with a pocketdock (or similar), better headphones/IEM, or a mid-fi standalone CDP if portable use is not a priority. Each would provide greater versatility in combination with other gear, and not limit you to what is essentially a very dear portable source that is being superseded faster than you can say "I want an iPod" (of course, I exaggerate.) Apple should be releasing the next gen iPod pretty soon, which should be factored in before committing to an iMod, either 4G or 5/5.5G. The last thing you want to happen is to find out that the latest gen iPod is tons better (and cooler) than the current one in more ways than one. My 2 cents.
  13. One set in mint condition for sale. Includes grado extension cable, grado 1/8" adaptor, and all original packaging. Asking $920. Self-collect at Marsiling/Woodlands MRT station. Delivery to other MRT stations will be subject to a $15 charge. (or rather, you get a $15 discount for self-collecting) Pictures: Please PM any queries. All thread craps/irrelevant discussions will be deleted as per forum rules and regulations. There have been quite a few requests to discuss via SMS/phone but I'd prefer to keep it to PMs - unless anyone is willing to help pay my phone bill. I will answer promptly and in as detailed a manner as I can.
  14. You can't go wrong with Grover (Huffman). Google it to find out more.
  15. Nicely done, and interesting theme/presentation. An essential read for those in the market for portable cans.
  16. I have made a new thread for feedback so as not to cloud the original announcement. As of now, I have yet to receive any desperate pleas for help to post FS threads. And with regards to the effectiveness of the new rule, I believe there is still a healthy number of deals around, and obvious profiteers (those we originally targetted, mainly) have ceased posting. YMMV. And to reiterate my point made above, "We are not against profiteering per se, but we do not want to encourage participation in the forum that solely feeds off monetary rewards." We understand that this is an expensive hobby, and occasional profits from sales can actually help sustain it. Just that if you registered just to sell stuff, I'd suggest you take your "business" to Ebay or Yahoo Auctions.
  17. SOLD. Thanks for all the interest.
  18. I'm personally not against this proposition but I'm not sure what the others in the moderating team think. Those who are "desperate" can try PMing us but no guarantees.
  19. And what should be the criteria if we were to do this on a case-by-case basis?
  20. There has been quite a lot of interest, so I think low-ballers can withdraw their offers. Sale pending to Newbie123 at the moment. Will update the rest if the sale falls through.
  21. Then you'd probably looking for solid state amps. I've used the Headamp GS-1 and it is very competent. You can also try the Ray Samuels HR-2, the Heed Canamp, the Corda Aria/HA2 MkII SE. Actually there are so many amps on the market nowadays, it's tough making a decision when you can't audition them all!
  22. The K701's sound great out of most mid to high end amps (and in fact the Ray Samuels portables), but they can really shine with a good amp that can pump lots of current. But I'm surprised they sound congested with some of the amps you listed, given their calibre. I suspect the problem might lie with other components in the chain, such as a less forgiving source compared to SE's budget Marantz. I was under the impression that Grados leak the most due to the very open design.
  23. Interesting observations. All the cans you auditioned are some of the most popular and acclaimed ones in the market, and more likely than not, personal preference and system synergy would dictate one's choice. As you have rightly done, the best way to decide would be to audition all of them yourself. And what better place than SE or Jaben to do that?
  24. One set in mint condition for sale. Includes stand, 1/8" adaptor, and all original packaging. Asking $420. Self-collect at Marsiling/Woodlands MRT station. Delivery to other MRT stations will be subject to a $15 charge. (or rather, you get a $15 discount for self-collecting) Please PM any queries.
