  1. Our community is still relatively small, as is the market for high end cans, so it might be difficult to get those. You would have to pay a substantial premium even if you can. Stereo_Electronics has some, including the ATH's and GS-1000's; Stax's are also available at Kingley. The K1000's are out of production, as is the Orpheus (HE90). If you don't mind buying online, that would be the surest way of procuring whatever you want, at more reasonable prices. We have meets from time to time, all we need is an organiser!
  2. No, I am working on a tight budget these days. I already have too many amps. By "too" in my previous post, I meant that you just got the ES2, and now the Tomahawk as well! Oh boy, am I jealous!
  3. Yep yotiao, interesting choice of colour. Getting a Tomahawk too?!
  4. Same ad I put up on Head-fi. Realised I would prefer to sell the amps locally since shipping overseas costs a bomb. I have the following amps for sale: 1. 3-month old black Headamp GS-1 in mint condition. $1050. Now $980. Let's make this $OLD since it's Chinese New Year. Like on Head-fi, buyer can purchase my Grover UR8's at a discounted price of $108. There is a new module in development stages, and Justin has promised to trade the modules with me when the new ones are out at no additional charge. I can help facilitate the exchange should the buyer decide to pursue this course. This offer is only valid for our forumers. GS-1 SOLD. 2. 3-month old Singlepower PPX3-Slam with 6SN7 driver tube in mint condition. Black Gate cathode capacitors upgrade (worth US$185). Comes with 2 x Raytheon 5687 tubes, a high quality NOS 6SN7 driver tube, and a couple of other medium grade NOS tubes all sent to me by Mikhail. Looking for $OLD. Prices are firm, since they are already at a substantial discount, and you would be saving a lot on shipping. Auditions for serious buyers only. Priority to those who do not request auditions as I have been really busy, and auditions can be troublesome when you have disagreeable parents. Of course, be assured that the amps are in perfect working condition. I hope my standing in this forum inspires enough confidence. With regards to why I am selling the amps: 1. I am pleased with both, and could live with either. I really don't use them enough to justify keeping both. 2. If I manage to sell both, then I will use the money to fund an amp upgrade.
  5. Happy Birthday, doc! You deserve lots of toys, and many happy returns.
  6. We need some pictures of all the nice custom ES2's in this thread!
  7. Another satisfied smartwrap user here. It's amazing how no one thought of it earlier.
  8. Great review and pictures, theory_87! Seems like a decent IEM which is relatively affordable.
  9. The ER4P->S cable or something similar should serve the purpose.
  10. Any portable player with the "shuffle" option would allow you to do that, wouldn't it? No offence intended, but I am surprised people are buying into Apple's marketing hype.
  11. Looks a lot like a Shure to me. Well, it's what the Japanese are best at. Anw, topic shifted to portable forum as suggested by aaron.
  12. Exloser has got most of the ground covered. However, if possible, save for the higher end models as that will prevent you from the inevitable upgraditis later.
  13. What do you guys think of the new X'mas theme of our boards? I was pleasantly surprised to see it when I logged on today, way cool! I love the reflections for some of the "buttons", and the festive mood is palpable. Though X'mas is still a while away, we could use the cheer. Great job, yotiao!
  14. It is best to remove the tri-flanges before cleaning, and allow them to dry after cleaning, so that the moisture wouldn't get to the drivers.

Your impressions with closed cans mirror mine.
  16. It was not a bug. It was something in his sig that prompted action by our administrator. I don't have records of what was in his sig, but I believe it violated our forum rules and regulations. In my personal capacity (i.e. not speaking for the entire moderating team), I am glad that there is an alternative venue for our members to share their thoughts and experiences, apart from organising MOs. But if there are members that participate only in that forum and boycott this one because of the recent episode, I urge them to reconsider if the majority members here should be penalised by this decrease in contribution. I believe parallel participation (i.e. in both) would be more constructive, just as most of us participate and contribute at both Head-fi and SGH. You can always express certain thoughts in a particular forum if you feel that you cannot do so comfortably at the other. Ultimately, what we hope to achieve is the consolidation and sharing of knowledge and experiences, and two similar forums is not conducive for this exchange, nor does it bode well for the unity of our small but growing community in general. YMMV. With that, I will close this thread.
  17. You can cut cost by using cheaper RCAs and materials, though of course there would be a compromise in sound.

A balanced and well-written review, thanks! My X-fi soundcard also comes with a 24-bit Crystaliser, wonder if it's the same as the one in the Xmod as advertisements boast the same effect of improving sound quality of lossy files to match CDs. I wasn't very impressed with the X-fi Crystaliser, sounds too artificial to my ears, like a non-customisable EQ program.
  19. Hmmm there's probably some bug. Thread closed.
  20. Happy birthday, mate. I know you are sad that your post count has been reset to 0 (you were so close on my heels!), but it's never too late to play catch-up.
  21. My apologies for being a little late in re-opening this thread. Yep, we are back online, all forums open, and I hope all of us can be open as well and not dwell on the past, but look ahead and enjoy this hobby. Cheers.
