  1. They're great for watching live soccer matches in the wee hours of the morning. No wires to trip over, headphone jacks to be ripped out, when you stagger off to bed while still wearing the phones because you've had way too much beer and chips. And if you just fall asleep in the living room , no wires for other family members to trip over. No wires for your pets, if any, to chew on either.
  2. I use it with a pair of SR80s. Sounds best to me with the crossfeed turned on. Belgarion, I assume you're a David Eddings fan?
  3. If anyone has any spare Meier-Audio 120 ohm adapter to sell, please PM me. Thanks.
  4. Bring back a Khukuri as a sourvenier! Oh, wait, there's this thing called Singapore customs....
  5. I LOVED the Jin Roh movie. Good storyline and action(nothing like the lovely sound of MG42 machine guns tearing into flesh and blood ) I also have the 2 earlier live-action(not animated) movies on order from Previews. Couln't get it anywhere else, even when I was in Hong Kong.
  6. Well, I think I'll finish up this thread by repeating my earlier comments. 1. You want constant, true 9 volt power, get the Plainviews. 2. If you can live with the lower voltages from GPs or Energizers, then no need to spend the extra money and go through the hassle of getting them from overseas. 3. Use the GP mouse-charger if you're getting the Plainviews as they put out the same charging current(or at least claim to) as the Plainview charger(24mah), and they're designed to charge 9V batteries in pairs. The other GP chargers(which can charge AAs and AAAs as well) are underpowered, charging at only 10mah if you charge in pairs, in which case you're likely to charge the Plainviews till the cows come home. I've only seen the mouse charger at the DIY store in Great World City basement. Either way I highly recommend the GP mouse charger, it's small, looks cute, the 2 green eyes light up when charging, looking very nice at night, the 2 170mah 9Vs it comes with make up the 'ears' when plugged into the charger. Because its the one GP charger designed only for 9Vs, it charges them faster than the other multi-position chargers. Rameish has my other pair of Plainviews in his RA-1 clone. We'll see if he has any additional comments when he's done with them.
  7. Could be, I'll email Norm and ask him. If thats the case its a good thing, we don't have to put up with degraded sound before the batteries run out. Wait hang on, that didn't make sense. The Planviews cut off at 9+ volts, the GPs cut off at 6+ to 7vs, hhmmm..............
  8. Very nice! How long does the battery last?
  9. Well, my Tempo with the GPs inside this time has just cut off all sound. I measured the GPs at about 7v each. There was no clipping before the sound died. Conclusion? If its really important to you to have constant 9v power, go for the plainviews. If not, you can get by with the GPs.
  10. Just checked, they measure about 8v! What the heck??? But I did get about 6 hours runtime with them. I tried putting them back into the tempo and turned it on, it could play music well for a few seconds, then died again. Still measures about 8v. Hmmm........
  11. My 2nd pair of Plainviews in my Tempo ran out of juice on the way home yesterday. Sound was abruptly cut off, without any noticeable degradation in sound quality before the batteries died. So it looks like the Plainviews are good to the last drop? I've now switched to my GPs to see what happens when they run low.
  12. Oh boy, the problem with buying things for the heck of it is that you've then got to search for the missing pieces. I should know, I ran out and bought a CD player without buying a home amp. So now, you only got to look for: Interconnects CDplayer Headphones better tubes for the V3? Good luck!
  13. Yes, I asked for the Alps Blue as well as extra buffers. I didn't listen to the RA1s for very long because of the thunder and lightning, but I'll say all 3 amps sounded pretty good. Now I've got to get me some of those Buena Vista Social Club CDs, those Cuban geezers sound good! BTW, I got an extra sourvenier from my visit. The flu, courtesy of Rameish's daughter. I was just saying I didn't feel like going to work today, looks like I got what I wanted!
  14. Spent a very pleasant afternoon at Rameish's place. As promised, here are the pics, I managed to get back my good camera for these. As you can see, Norm does very nice work. Despite all the abuse hurled at the Grado RA-1, it IS a very good sounding headamp.
  15. I'll remember to pick up a set of small screwdrivers at the hardware store tomorrow.
  16. last one.. I forgot to get the small screwdrivers so no pics of the inside.
  17. Guys, make sure you hold off on the powerbuy until I finish my testing by the end of next week. I don't want people to spend money only to be disappointed. As far as I know there is no tax on batteries(but I could be wrong, my package was declared as headphone amp, and made no mention of batteries). The only tax I know is the $%*&^#@ GST for declared value of over 400sgd.
  18. It was on, off total, used on the way and back from work. I'll have to use them for another week for a more accurate look at how they perform. P.S. As far I as know, you can't get Plainviews locally.
  19. That'll have to wait till the weekend. My screwdrivers are too big to open up the Tempo's casing. And I haven't had the Tempo long enough to arrive at a conclusion.
  20. I found it at the hardware store in great world city basement(where the food court, cold storage and that cd shop is located) Costs about $30, includes charger and 2 9v batts.
  21. I ordered 2 pairs of planview 9vs from Norm of Headsave to use with my Tempo amp. I use the GP 9v charger(the one that looks like a mouse and comes with 2 170mAh 9vs). The first pair was charged for 14 hours, and both measured 11.07v right out from the charger. After 1 day(and 2 hours worth of use), they measured about 9.89v. I repeated the voltage measurement for the next 2 days. By the end of the 3rd day, the plainviews measured 9.38v. When I saw the reading falling to less than 9.6v, I was thinking that the batteries should die soon, and sure enough, I left the amp running from my pcdp and when I returned 45 minutes later, I found the led light off and no sound coming out from my headphones. Summary: 1. The Plainviews lasted 6+ hours in the Tempo, and measured above 9 volts till they died. 2. It looks like they work as advertised! Constant voltage above 9 volts and then sudden dropoff just before running out of juice. 3. I used the GP 6v charger as it claims a charging current of 24 mAh, same as the plainview charger. Other GP chargers put out 15mAh. Plus the mouse design looks cute. 4. The Plainviews are much heavier than the GP 9vs, probably because there are more cells in the plainview batteries, hence the 9.6v rating. 5. Please note that these are first impressions, I will be measuring the 2nd pair and will update this thread when possible. Plainviews can be ordered from Norm(Tigger) from Headsave for 10usd each, before shipping. P.S. Rameish, if you're interested to run your own tests on them I can pass you one pair. PM me.
  22. I can't comment on the px200, but my px100 didn't really benefit much from amping. On the other hand, my Etys, with the 4S cable, sing like they never have before when paired up with my new Tempo.
