  1. my new low-tech time piece it does not hav any extra features like alarm...memory or address book, it just tells time its a new Seiko 5 model, it does hav a transparent back plate to show off the internal mechanism and its built like a tank
  2. i'm not good at writing details on sound characteristics, but one thing i know is that i'm listening to all my CDs again cause they sound good now with the new player, i'm hearing new details that was not there before when using my sony mini compo as a CDP. i guess the player sounds more neutral, its also warmer compared to the sony and i don't get tired listening to it, i hav also made some changes to my amp... rewired the buffers placing them within the feedback loop, this seems to giv giv the amp more punch when driving the HD595
  3. are there any integrated or tube amps that can be bought below my $150 budget? i plan to use this for my speaker setup which is actually on my desk. i hav a pair of small KLH 8 ohm speakers mounted on the wall, its a full range passive speaker, had it for quite a few years now, never really use them. currently the speakers is being driven by my Sony CMT EX-1 mini compo, actually i was too lazy to dissmantle the KLH speakers from the wall bracket and replace them with the original Sony speakers cause all the cables and brackets are already done, i intend to use the setup for my PC as well cause all those cables are also there i think with my budget, tubes are unlikly i don't know if there are amps winthin my budget, don't need a high end stuff, just somthing that has ok sound...or is it more sensible to stick with the Sony?
  4. is it following the original PPA? or are there changes made? there seems to be a few extra caps on your board
  5. a portable amp would be about the same price of the PX200...but still depends on the the builder and parts used, also the specs that the buyer requires u can do a search on the price of a basic Cmoy, its the most simple/basic amp for portable, that will giv u a guide on the price for an amp locally
  6. my first real post in this part of the forum on the right : Beautiful Asia on the left : Asia Louge the right album is a kind of fusion music with traditional chinese instruments + electronic sampling/mixing the left album is like new-age/zen/lounge/pop/bits-of-techno rojak thingy mix with an asian feel to the music sounds good, relaxing & refreshing sound
  7. i vote red look like PC mobo so the new board no need to solder? sounds interesting
  8. i'm still in the process of tweaking my amp with the new CDP, the flaws of the amp is more evident vocals stuff that i hav like Sarah Mclachan & Shawn Colvin sounded ok, its the faster/louder stuff that i don't like when using the amp
  9. now that u hav a good headphone...its time to go down the dark path of...HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER !!
  10. bought the tool from UF in SLS i must say it works better then i thought, heres the results cutting a line... turning, changing direction... the finished amp, the whole cutting process took about 1/2 hr, and the was no need for filling as the cuts were very clean now i can use the 3 pin power connectors and square switchs for all my amp thanks Heady
  11. where u got your pair from wil? i saw them in Hung Bros but no chance to try them yet
  12. one ear is bigger then the other u'll get used to it after a while, i always feels like my left ear is hearing the music louder then the right ear...i think its the preasure within the ear that causing this, just need to hold your nose and blow to equalise the preasure
  13. looks like a very useful tool may not need a Dremal or RTX after all i'll go check it out tomorrow
  14. Mackie, i hav check with Merdeka on the Pioneer DV-696a, there's no such model but there is a DV-969 is that the model u're looking for? anyway quoted price for the DV-969 is around $1300 +/- looks like a very high-end DVD player
  15. update : i tried the power pin orientation and measured the difference with my digital multimeter, i got about 11v AC from 1 direction, when i turn the cable the other way round i measured about 14v, so i left in in the 11v position can't say if i hear any difference... maybe due to the type of music i listen to moslty instrumental stuff, but its still godd to know that everything is in its correct place
  16. thanks Mackie, i'm not sure who is Eddie, but getting a quote should be no problem, i got my Denon though my boss who deals with someone call "ah meng" i think he's the manager there or the boss? Garc, i was also considering the 5300 before, its a little cheaper (quoted @ $365 from world audio) but the Denon has a few more features and i think its worth the extra $10++ i'll try the 2 pin power cord orientation to see if i can hear the difference
  17. got it from Merdeka in SLS there's only 1 pair of output on the player, does not hav an extra fixed level connector on the 2-pin power cord...i know which is live/neutral on the wall socket, but not sire how to figure out L/N on the player...do i hav to look at the transformer inside the player? there's also no indecation on the player itself.
  18. thanks Mackie i bought the 685 today decided not to wait for a black one some of the features that i like about the player : display dimmer, 3 steps - can also turn off the display completely adjustable output levels pitch control - not sure what this does havn't read the manual it has a headphone jack which actually sounds quite good as well here u can see the main controls of the player, nothing fancy, simply logical layout, the knob is a jog dial to skip tracks quickly, the output level can only be adjusted with the remote centre loading tray, the mechanism is a little loud though, maybe its because its late at night and there less noise around me shot here with my desktop amp, the pairing sounds good to me, at least its better then the Sony mini-compo that i was using, the output level at 0 is higher then the sony, i had to reduce the volume on my amp to get my normal listening level, i first thought the setup will look weired with a black amp + gold player, but now it looks ok, maybe its because i like the color of the Denon its not really "gold" looks a little faded, almost a silver tone, the lights in the shop made it look more "golden" i like the way the setup sounds now DCD685 + buffered Cmoy + Senn595 i'll be building a small shelf so the amp can sit away from the player cause i think it looks better alone
  19. the board looks good i like the color, looks very pro but is it legal to hav the words "PPA" printed on it? Bram, u ordered one too rite? will need u to take a close-up shot of the board to see how good it looks
  20. yap if u already got the basic tools then go for it u can find eveything u need in SLT although they may not be the best components for a good amp, at least they will work if u get it right
  21. i hav more or less decided on the CDP that i'm going to get, this will be paired with my desktop buffered cmoy now just need that final push from u guys for the DCD-685G, i was quoted S$375 today (SLS), but they only had it in gold, otherwise i would hav a new player now anyone knows if the price is resonable? i hav yet to ask those that i know in SLS so the final price should be better. i'm not looking for a "high end" player, just one thats within my budget with resonable sound quality, the Denon meets my budget requirement, but i hav not heard how it sounds like, can anyone comment on its sound? DCD-685 there was also a Marantz CD6000 in the shop but it was over budget ($480)
  22. ehh, are you talking about EM5? Or is tehre really a ES5? Didn't consider that as Senn better in terms of bass than AT...read this in http://www.macuser.org.sg/yabbse/index.php?topic=7653.0 yes there is an ES5 its a new headphone from Audio Techinca, and the price is also within your budget, i think its A-T's answer to the PX100 & PX200 ATH-ES5
