    new toys

You got the one with the wood panel.
  3. Strictly cosmetic and a waste of money. I leave them off.
  4. Great! N@Z and Q00, pls start the ball rolling!
  5. This is strictly speaking not classical, but its extremely fun and well recorded : Artist: Jacques Loussier Trio Recording: The Best of Play Bach Release# SACD-63590 Highly recommended!
  6. Tried to organise one before, but then somehow the venue got diverted and was not followed up. Interest waining? I think there are a few very keen forumers who are interested in getting this rolling. Those who are should just organise their own mini meet and do it, rather than wait for something "official" cause its tough to get everyone to agree on something as simple as a venue.
  7. That's why I point them straight ahead, not at me... Safe, you won't see me running for the vol control. So far the most musical spks I've ever heard, cans included.
  8. New spks = Cabasse Baltic II and Thor II sub excuse me if I don't use my headphones for a while...
  9. Nice review Welly, as I'm intimately familar with the Cardas Golden PC, I can understand where you are coming from. I'm using something like 5 of them in 2 systems and love the sound, one of them is connected to the Denon A11/5900. The xStream is newer and I've no experience with it.
  10. Just sold off my faithful pair of Vandersteens and plan to upgrade to a Cabasse which should arrive at the end of the month. Meanwhile, I'm Just played some Dire Straits "On Every Street" remastered CD. Man... it sounds really good. Glad I didn't sell the Melos or the AT W100s. With the 120ohm impedencer plug, it just sounds great! On Charismatic's comments about the W100 and HD600, I have this to add. The HD600 is quite a warm can, hard to dislike really. If I were to be picky, I'd say the mid-bass is a little full, which gives it a nice warm feel, like a blanket on a cold night. I still prefer my W100s for the dynamics, speed, accuracy and musicality. Happy everyone, and good night.

  12. For classical music, STAX.
  13. e-zen, you shd ask Charismatic to give you the feedback on how the W100, HD600 and DT990 sounded on my home setup. In fact I was meaning to ask him, but had to rush due to another appointment.
  14. Beyers require a good amp to drive them, else they may sound lethargic. But given good matching amp, they sound very nice.
  15. Fuwen, check out the Mozart Piano concerto #23 and #4. I have the complete Piano concertos by Ashkenazy. Last time we talked about #21. 23 is especially good.
  16. Just to clarify, I did not "come in to our[your] store several times, spend hours listening and comparing different models of Grados and then complain that they can get the headphones they want cheaper elsewhere on the Net". I only came in once and listened for about an hour(your shop was busy), the second time I came to audition the SR325 to confirm whether I wanted to buy or not, I was brushed off, but did not want to make an issue of it, because I know both you and your rep. Given the price premium of the SR325, and the service received, naturally I was disappointed. In fact, it was only after I could not audition the SR325 again that I started seriously looking for alternatives - sources or headphones. I do appreciate your coming forward to clear the air, especially with regards to pricing, but this past experience has put me off Grados for the time being.
  17. Guys, don't be shy. Why no response? If you don't want to change the place and stick with SPGG, that's fine. That'll mean that our retiring sgheadphoner cannot tui chu jiang hu.
  18. David, there are a number of cans on offer in the classifieds at the moment. My pick if your budget can stretch is the Beyer 880, but this requires an amp. There also is an SR80 on sale now.
  19. Some pictures of the place : Meeting rooms Wheelhouse Map of the place The Tanglin Club
  20. Ok I had this in the back of my head as an alternative site, just that if we could do with something cheaper, then we should go with that alternative. Pls reply with a YES or NO, and let me know what you think of this option. Place : Tanglin Club Cost : $270 for a whole day, ie 9am to 5pm Size : about the size of a conference room, can accomodate about 30 Dress code : smart casual, no slippers, no jeans with holes Food : Wheelhouse has various local, western and even Indian cuisine cost similar to SPGG, but tastes better(IMHO) There are about 3 or more power points which need to be shared. Also there's the question of date and time.
  21. Just checked with the building management, they switch off the aircon at 1pm on Sat Have to find an alternative site.
