I'm curious Much have been discussed on HP 890. Carry out a search for those threads on this forum and U'll find more than U hoped for. Btw, it's not fair to compare sub $100 HP890 with AKG K501 which costs more. It's akin to comparing K501 with Beyer DT150. That's true, but I think for the price, it's pretty decent stuff. I would say that if you are paying that amount, it's actually more sound than what the pricing would indicate. But I just couldn't get the airport staff last week to let me try out the HP1000s. Anyone who's heard it or knows where I can compare it, pls let me know. Thans! peekarwe 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2004 Hung Bros got the philips hp1000, audit it than tell us how's the sound Hi Boxer, yah, went down yesterday, saw the 1000s, wanted to take out my mp3 to see if can drive them, then realised that my handphone was missing. No mood to audition liao, so I left the place. In any case, he gave me the price of $160, do you think this price is good or he can give a better price? For me, $160 might be better spent on the SR80s but I still feel that this 1000s deserve an audition before giving up.
boxer 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2004 I aws also quoted the same price when I asked last month; didn't bargain cos only look see look see.It will definetely sound diff. from SR80 but u have to consider the comfort factor as well. SR80 r not known to be very comfortable for long listening. That's 1 of the reasons I didn't choose Grado but Audio technical AD700 instead.YMMV
Mackie 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2004 ............A L A R M.......... Guys, I was at Phoenix Hotel Garden Cafe (basement of Specialist Shopping Centre) and discovered Tag Mclaren shop next to it is having a sale. Lots of Philips cans there and HP890 is currently going for S$69. I saw about 4 sets there. It's the lowest price I've seen and definitely more accessible than Raffles Audio which used to retail them at $70. At this price, it's simply a no brainer. Grab it! After which, check on our discussion thread on 890 on the mods on improving the sound. It's worth it. Newbies might wanna apply these easy mods after warranty period though.
