augustineRS 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2004 Done the mod. Gave it some extentsive listening. Did improve, for the strings and classics.McLachlan sound closer to me than ever. But i just realise something, IMHO 890 cannot make it for rock or bass heavy stuff. Linkin Park sound quite terrible on it, Smashing Pumpkins too. Running without amp, straight out from the headphone jack.
Mackie 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2004 (edited) On the contrary, my dear Watson.........er augustine (speaking with tone of Sherlock Holmes ), I find HP890 has big bass and in fact, too big (in volume..........not extension though) for its own good before the mod. Post mod's sound is certainly more balanced for the mid-highs is more apparent now. I based my findings on pcdp + PCII amp and also home rig. augustineRS 0 Report post Posted March 7, 2004 IMHO, Linkin Park sound thin or flat.Using CD5000 straight out from jack. At least pcdp can drive them efficiently. Hmmm...time to polish thee ears(where's the cotton buds). At least U2, The Best of 1980-1990 is excellent!
Mackie 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2004 (edited) A new discovery augustine. I found that HP890 sounded smoother in terms of music flow and bass is significantly punchier when I switched my RKV impedancer to 64ohm instead of 32ohm. I'll try using it with Meier-Audio's 120ohm adapter on my portable rig to hear if there's a marked improvement. Watch this space.
