av98m 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2003 (edited) Spent a very pleasant afternoon at Rameish's place. As promised, here are the pics, I managed to get back my good camera for these. As you can see, Norm does very nice work. Despite all the abuse hurled at the Grado RA-1, it IS a very good sounding headamp. matbon0013 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2003 Norm (Headsave) does churn out quality workmanship. There is alot of tender loving put into his products. Is that an Alps blue pot shoehorned into the SerPac case, very nice indeed. Would be interesting to pitch the PIMETA against META42 of yore in a head to head. How did it fare against the RA-1 and RA-1 clone in the NAF NAF?
av98m 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2003 Yes, I asked for the Alps Blue as well as extra buffers. I didn't listen to the RA1s for very long because of the thunder and lightning, but I'll say all 3 amps sounded pretty good. Now I've got to get me some of those Buena Vista Social Club CDs, those Cuban geezers sound good! BTW, I got an extra sourvenier from my visit. The flu, courtesy of Rameish's daughter. I was just saying I didn't feel like going to work today, looks like I got what I wanted!
N@Z 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2003 Sweet! I was wondering why you didn't opt for the thinner translucent serpac enclosure... to fit in the Alps Blue! Even the 4 capacitors look like can fit even bigger ones. Bring it to the upcoming meet so we can do a comparo. Yay! Another Buena Vista Social Club member! Rameish 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2003 I love to convert people. The Naf Naf and wood Grado RA-1 sound identical! Well except for the better balance in the Naf Naf at low volumes. In all honesty, I prefer the Grado RA-1 for both Senn HD-600 and Grado cans. Very underated amp IMO. Did not try the 650 with the Headsave Transit/Tempo unit.
