The glass optical cable from the headphones connects directly to the optical outputs of your digital source - if I'm not wrong this cans has a build in DAC that upsample to 96kHz.

Those look like the direct usb version of the AT cans. The usb version also has a built in dac. AT seems to be innovating quite a bit lately but it does make u wonder because they take out alot of 'in between' parts like interconnects and external dac's.
