N@Z 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 I like the Grado ones. The 1/4" socket is seperate of the 1/8" mini plug hence it relieves the stresses on the headphone out connection.

fishball79 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 anyway brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, so there IS copper. Oh yeah DOH. Thanks for the info
N@Z 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 So the more copper the better or it doesn't really matter, as the current flows mainly on the surface hence the gold plating?
adhoc 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 i think the gold plating is there to prevent corrosion, so that a reliable contact can always be acheived. however, a buildup of material can STILL occur ON the gold plated surface's SURFACE. so something goldplated's only advantage would be that muck builds up on the surface as opposed to IN THE METAL. evil-zen 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 gold not really good conductor of electricity. silver is the best followed by copper i think.
N@Z 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 i think the gold plating is there to prevent corrosion, so that a reliable contact can always be acheived. ... God sake, yeah ah... why does this uncle keep forgetting that!
matbon0013 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 I can concur evil-zen's post regarding silver and copper, but I would disagree on where gold is in the hierarchy! Gold is a better conductor than both due to the nature of this metal (expensive) it is not readily used. And also Silver tarnishes but gold ......... never! N@Z 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 I thought it went something like: (Conductivity) 1. Silver - highest 2. Gold 3. Copper Not sure where Nickle is placed.
fishball79 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 adhoc, Nah gold is used cos it accumulate muck the slowest. N@Z, Conductivity in descending order -> Silver, Copper, Gold.
N@Z 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2003 OK thanks fish, borderline OT now, we going, ugh!
