heady 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2006 Hi squalle, have you started on your PINT? From the headfi forum, some people having problems. Any experience to share?
mb3k 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2006 There has been extensive discussion some modifications to reduce the DC offset. Thanks to a bunch of head-fi members it came down to a Mini³fied version of the PINT. Here's a quick rundown: A summary of the modifications (PDF)
squalle 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2006 heady: no time yet very very bz at work, and not very sure that my iron can handle the 1206 sizes I'll see how. but anyway, yea, all parts obtained. except the casing of course have u started?
heady 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2006 Hoping to start soon, squalle. Been busy doing the income tax thingy etc. I need a break, to smell solder fumes!!

Posting on behalf on squalle (He has problems posting) "I've done the PINT it was quite a breeze but.... yea. the hiss is real loud so gotta change the values down heady, you've got extra resistors right? mind to share some with me? like hmm, 10 of them each values will post photos soon"
viconte 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2006 Post by squalle: "hiss only audible with very efficient earphones, tried on UM2 and CK7, both of them hiss, but not sporta pros not DT880, sporta pros bass tighten man, i think u might like this amp"

PM me your address and I send them to you by post. If you stay in the east, can drop them off. I have 1.5K and 3.3K. Can we exchange the resistors? I want to try one with the original parts except the gain.
Zephyron 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2006 Heady, I can act as delivery guy and send the parts to Squall if need be =)
squalle 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2006 finally I can post LOL heady: yea I can pass you some from my side maybe let Zephyron handle the exchange? LOL anyway, one of the 2 PINTs I've assembled belongs to him. I dont think he would like to wait long as he's digging the PINT with his CK7 to quote him, he said the PINT helps CK7's lack in mid range well, let's see how things turn out tmr
squalle 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2006 I've assembled 3 PINTs No more hiss out of it anymore #1. 3 brothers and sisters #2. the top view of PINT #3. the bottom view of PINT using 3 AAs, the consumption is 47mA. the same be it with my UM2s plugged in, or without the last time while it was hissing, the amp consumed more, i.e. 69mA when earphones plugged in. same 47mA when nothing's plugged in 9v batteries are a no-no for AD8397 unless u're happy with just a few hours run time
heady 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2006 (edited) Good job, squalle. I was thinking about starting and you beat me to it. Anyway, will learn from your efforts. Aiyah, got to clear my work table of accumulated rubbish but the inertia to cleaning is there ( man thing, right? ) Anyway, great pics of great builds. Did you do all the stuff to mini3-fy the PINT? Ie cut the trace plus jumper and the combining the R4 and C3 together? Notice you got the diodes in plus the voltage regulator for charging the batteries, are you going to do that? With 3 AAs? And what enclosures are you planning for it? I bought an enclosure for it, same as CMOY2 but i think it is too small now, for 3 AAs. heady 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2006 I have just finished my first board. I found I forgot to order the diodes, so I use an axial diode instead. All the test seems ok except the current draw is about 175mA but the opamps are not hot, the ground opamp is hotter but its temp is just about 36degrees celcius. Any comments re: anything wrong? Oh, yeah, the sound. It's great!
squalle 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2006 hmm did u put in the ferrite? 100+ is high leh... mine, both with and without anything plugged in (in my case it was UM2), the current draw stays at 46-47mA ur 100+ is when song playing? my measurements were done when nothing's playing, which IMO shd be the case to chk if the op-amps are oscillating
heady 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2006 Put in everything except U2, R1 and D1. Could it be the diode draws more current since it is not the surface mount type? I am useless with electronics.. Listening to it with my DT880, it sounds really good, very clean and yet not bright.
squalle 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2006 hmm tell me, wat diode do u use?
