aaron-xp 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 Was wondering if there were any "specially" recommended headphone amplifers for newbies like me to understand and build... Was thinking of the Cmoy... Also, can I assume from other threads that a good place to buy components is Sim Lim Tower? Also, which ones would be the appropriate shops? Thanks.
heady 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 (edited) You can get almost everything on the 3rd level of SLT. I personally like the two sisters in Handy (I think), they are quite helpful to newbies like me. Kaichin and shop to the left of Kaichin also quite good. However for capacitors, you will need to go down to the basement of SLT. About the only thing you won't find in SLT will be the opamps. For that, you can buy from Farnell. You will need to have a credit card to order by phone (so the girl can explain to you why they have in stock but you still need to wait 5 days to get it) and then go collect when ready. Farnell do deliver but must buy more than $30 for free delivery otherwise, I think the delivery charge is $5. My recommendation is to start with CMOYs and make all your mistakes (how else to learn?) with them before going to anything else. aaron-xp 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 Thanks. Will read up on basic electronics and circuits... Sigh, didn't have any circuit design/electricity lessons, besides the really basic circuit board lesson which was just to plug in resistors and batteries and LEDs and play... heady 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 Don't despair. I was worse. When I learned physics in school, LKY still young man. If I can do it, so can you. Besides this forum got many "da ge" to help you.

siriuz 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2006 If you don't have a credit card or can't make up $30 for the free delivery, you can order through federal on the 2nd floor. They'll place orders to RS or farnell for you, you pay on the spot, and collect it some days later I don't know how much of a cut they take though

aaron-xp 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2006 ^ Was thinking of doing a school project on it next year, especially since this is a subject where I can find many specialists. Can't buy, though, it'll be too obvious...
heady 0 Report post Posted August 19, 2006 Heady, if you're a newbie, I dunno what I am. Thanks for taking time to advise me on some of those DIY stuffs to me. Aiyah, afbug, I am newbie. I don't know all the electronic stuff, I just follow blindly and do. Cannot improvise or design my own. I am strictly a script kiddie or in my case, a script oldie.
