Altec Lansing iM716

Recommended Posts

i go 4 bass, so if i have $$$ i would go 4 Um2... cos the bass is deep haha, but currently no $$, so hab to stick wif my ep630... heard that the im716 hab a tight bass which i dun like...

i Wont say the Um2 bass is deep....

in my opinions,i think UM2 bass is too heavy that it covers most of its Clarity

using amp with UM2 would be better and sound would be much better for my ears....

think what you want, but my sf5p is no mistake.

ER4 would be my top choice for now.....

Any idea who is the guy that lends us his ER4 on saturday?

Taken from Westone website.

"Please Note: The ES3 features an intentional bump in the midrange frequency response that is of great benefit to vocalists and guitarists who perform onstage. Therefore, the ES3 is not the best choice for listening to recorded music. If this is your goal, you'll be more interested in the ES2 or ES1."

You guys sure you want this for the sound? I believe the UE10 is more suitable if you wanna go custom. Anyway triple drivers IEMs are not necessarily better than dual drivers IEMs. It all depends on what you are looking for. I guess many of us are aiming for the UE10 Pro just for ego rather than for the sound.. it'll be a costly mistake if it turns out bad, cos it has got no resale value.

Read somewhere in headfi that a 30 (or 300?) ohms resistor helps to smoothen out the midrange bump. Seems, from reviews, that it is even more accurate than the UE10 pro, probably because it is primarily a stage monitor...

Sigh, you guys talking about IEMs really make me look back at the good old days (just 2 days ago), when I still had my UM1...

The EP630 just pales in comparison in all aspects, from isolation to bass impact, to midrange and highs...

Everyone is a little confused about the relation between the Etymotics and the Altec's. So I have spoken to Don Wilson, he works for Etymotic, he is the project manager and his name is on many of the Etymotic patents. Anyway he tells me that the ER-4's and the ER6i's are not at all related to the IM716's and the IM616's and the only thing they have in common are the earpieces.

In his words:

"The only part the ER-4 and the Altec lansing IM716's and IM616's have in common is the white three flanged eartip. It is funny how these things grow out of proportion. I do need to set our sales staff straight on the difference between the ER-4 and the Altec Lansing product. Also the iM 716 bass boost just adjusts the bass without changing the sensitivity of the overall unit."

So if you have been told otherwise by Etymotic's sales staff, they are wrong.

O_O...

i always thot sensitivity n impendence are linked...

iM716 has a impedence of 68ohms in HD & 37 ohms in bass mode...

n i think e sound sig of iM716 and ety is v close.. if not almost similar..

to say tt ety and iM716 is similar only in the earpiece (does he mean the eartips and the plastic casing??) is lk tryin to imply tt iM716 is ridin on the waves of ety and Don Wilson is being qt hostile to e idea...

hmm...
