newbie question: USB DAC - need drivers ?

Recommended Posts

I'm also interested in getting jitter-free and lossless music from my HDD ! :DD

Even the hifi brands e.g PS Audio and Stello are building DACs with USB inputs, so I'm hoping for a great improvement in sound.

Quesiton: Does this connection require a driver to enable the link ? If no why ?

Usually no drivers are needed for USB DACs. Most are happy to work with Windows' native USB audio driver.

I'm not sure about Macs though. Mac users?

Yup. Just plug it in and your ready to go.

Fubar is affordable too, thus it won't really do this :moneyflies: to your wallet.

My Total Bithead works just fine with the default drivers and I'm guessing most other USB DAC's should have no problem.

There are portable and desktop varitions.

For portable visit the usual suspects in draining Wallet. LoL! :helpsmilie:

Jaben at Adelphi

and

Stereo electronics now at Plaza Singapura and it's original Location at Causeway Woodlands

For Desktop, you can buy some locally from local distributor and some thru the Web only. Stello is bought thru the wed. belcanto, Dacmagic and Benchmark at Adelphi just make a round thru the floors. Jaben also brings in the Lavry and the Zero. But all I listed are wallet KILLERs. you can also consider China brands which are usually more afordable. :sweat:

@OP

If you plan to use USB as the transport. you might want to get ASIO4ALL. its a supplement driver that couples with windows driver to help provide better quality. (Personal Definition. Lol!) =)

the pc detects only the DAC chip as the other parts will be irrelevant to the oc. so as long as you have windows xp and above it should be plug and play.
