wilbee 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 With both being about the same price, I use them mainly for the discman. Which would be a good bet? Music is varied but surely no techno. Includeds vocals, jazz, rock pop. thanks. The Sony Fontopia range 71 or maybe even the newer ones or the senheisser HD 497?

Wortel 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Isnt that one of those fontopia buds?
adhoc 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 (edited) i think he means the mdr-ex71. it's one of the 'nude' buds. aka a poor man's in-canal phones. aka the poor man's er-4. i do not recommend either. for that price you can get yourself a very very good px100. almost couldnt believe how much more clear and natural the sound was compared to my already-not-bad px200. pity it's open though. I bet u have taken that into consideration. if I were u I would choose 497 over the sony. Listened it at people's audio at people's park. Direct from the phone output of an aiwa discman, some pop song, sorry I forgot which song was it, not bad. Listened to 477 at that time also, it's not as good as 497. Please note that this is my personal opinion.
adhoc 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2003 the px100 can be found at hung bros at sim lim square level 2 for ~$75. you can bargain a bit IIRC.
evil-zen 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2003 if both were of the same price at $100, the MDR 71 will not be worth it. I have MDR 70 and had to mod it to make it sound decent. But still, not worth $100 but maybe half the price.

mychew 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2003 hm...how does it sounds?is it better than your hd 200?
Sipher 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2003 i didnt listen to it much at the shop. all i know is that i dont like the way it sounds maybe because 1) it's new from box so not burn in yet 2) lousy source..the salesperson using a vcd player to play a cd for me to audition 3) i guess i prefer closed headphones at that time so i bought the hd200 over the hd 497. if u are interested, u can go audition the hd497 since it's quite highly recommended at its price range.
