  1. I agree 50 is a lot. The idea is that members who contribute to the forum in a positive way will quickly build up the post count. What the rule is trying to discourage, are people who join just to post ads and then disappears when the sale is done. The so-called "fly-by-night" merchants. And the rule will also protect members from the more unscrupulous people. I understand the reason for this rule which by the way, was formulated by earlier mods who while less active are still around. It was and is a wise decision. Regards
  2. As 1bit said, practice makes perfect. Words of wisdom here. Lost count of how many CMOY I killed before I got one working. So don't give up.
  3. Coolben, Where in williamneo blog is there the pot with 5 connections? Can't see it. To answer your question, for non-balanced connections which is what we are doing with CMOY, the ground for left and right channel are combined. Federal opens office hours. heady
  4. Free samples are meant for people doing development of new products. If it doesn't bother you, you can get the free samples. Op amps can only be ordered from Farnell or RS. Farnell has more choice if order is more than $30, they deliver free. RS right now has promotion and deliver free for any amount. Be careful of which opamps you used. Make sure they are FET type and not bi-polar. Not all opamps are plug-in compatible as well.
  5. blackmouth, What to do? As long as the people don't post nonsense, we just have to tolerate. When they get to post their ads, they will stop. Just ignore them until they do. Thanks for voicing up. We want this forum to be nice and saying so will help the naughty ones to behave. Cheers.
  6. I heard from the Jaben forum that they no longer sell the kit. But you can built one without the kit, the parts are available from Sim Lim Tower. Just need guts and gungho to start. And be prepared to destroy the first one or two attempts. Look at it as lessons. That's how I started. If you not sure if you will go on to other projects, just buy a cheap soldering iron from SLT and don't forget a little tin of flux, you will need it. For the tin, the perfect tin locally will be the Hudson's cough drops tin. Go for it! Cheers.

Sorry adn6244. Looking at the pic below, the part on the left is the dock connector, the part on the right is the 3.5mm mini stereo phono plug. Is this what you are asking?
  8. Sorry, I deleted the nonsense post. Gave me a lot of work to delete all his nonsense posts. Sigh.

    LOD = line out dock
  10. **Off Track** Cool it, coolben. The platoon sits far away cannot get hit by grenade one. Only danger to trainee is if you drop it yourself. :OUCH:
  11. Hi guys and gals, You will note there is this one member who joined in June but hardly posted until he needed to sell something and wanted to post a WTS ad in the classifieds. Since I have been charged with the task of removing posts like his, I deleted his WTS ad and then told him he need to get more than 50 posts. Well, well, our friend went and post all sorts of nonsense all over the forum. I removed some of the more nonsensical posts but left some. Action has been taken against him but we are lenient so far as he or she may just be someone young and foolish and we want to give the person a chance. Please rest assured we will try our best to make sgheadphones a nice place without foolish people to spoil the fun. Thanks guys and gals.
  12. I also use quite a lot of Cat5e wires too in my builds. I work in IT so got lots of small pieces left from projects so re-cycle lah. The whole Cat5 and Cat6 cabling system work on the twisted pair which tends to reject noise better. And each twisted pair is also twisted amongst the other twisted pairs. So all the twisting will make the entire cable conform to the standards. When we take out the wires - poof no more standard already. Just reasonably pure copper wires with good insulation. But never mind lah, we use short lengths only, no worries about all the cross talk etc. Cheers.
  13. Thanks for the info. For me, attending concerts were a good lesson in what live music should sound like. I got much less critical of sound staging after a few concerts. Realised where you sit will influence what you hear and that there is no such thing as the right sound. Just enjoy the music.
  14. mouz, Hope you won't mind my comment re: Cat 5 and Cat6. The link is talking about using the cat6 cable for its original purpose, ie networking. If we unwind the wires inside the cable and then use just three. Ie. Left channel, right channel and ground wires and braid them, the things talked about in the article does not hold any more, as we are not using the whole cat 6 cable but three wires only, as a braided triad. Then the electrical characteristics, such as capacitance and inductance will be different. But it's a good idea, to use the solid core copper wires for interconnect. Regards
  15. Just saw today at Koba, they have solid core copper with silver plate or pure silver solid core.
  16. Try Koba. I saw they have more selection of pots now.
  17. Wells Audio sell only the RK27 big blue pot not the smaller switched RK097. At least I have not seen him sell this smaller one. So you may need to do some creative air-wiring.
  18. 100K pot can find easy but whether size is ok or not as quite big. Go to Well Audio in Burlington and look for Franky. He stock the Alps RK27 series pots.
  19. Hope Albert is doing well in AudioTechnica. He's a nice guy. Thanks for sharing charismatic.
  20. Hi Eric, Wow, you resurrected a 2006 thread. Adding a headphone amp will help somewhat in terms of power. But sound quality will improve marginally, as the PSP and VIAO notebook has poor output quality, not just poor power. You can take your portable devices with your headphones and go to either Stereo Electronics in Causeway Point, or Jaben's in Adelphi. We are very priviledged in Singapore to have two shops which allow extensive testing of their amps and headphones. Take a warning though, both places are extremely dangerous to your wallet's health. Cheers.
  21. I must point out that your schematic and the PINT virtual ground is not the same. If you are using a dual opamp for the virtual ground, then you are using it like the A47 left and right channels which has a slightly different schematic again. I think it will be better to either adapt the PINT virtual ground or just use a single opamp instead of two opamps/dual opamp chip. Anyhow, I am just a script kiddy lah, dunno enough basic electronics. But here's a link to a great place to read about virtual ground.
  22. I guess if you have a problem, there's no harm to try it. If you are going to this trouble for the CMOY ground, why not built a Pimeta instead? Anyway, here's a pic of the PINT virtual ground, maybe you can adapt it.
  23. And there's news that a firmware update to be released this month will give it FLAC decoding. I am waiting for this to happen.
  24. Thanks for "un-confusing" me. Now I do think it is possible to make a DIY capacitor, after all, it is just an dielectric between two conductors. But whether it works well or sound good, that's a different matter altogether.
  25. Made capacitors? For portable use? Man, I am totally mystified. Got more info?
