    going tubes

    Great work, digi01. Looks good.
  2. dreamie, I am no expert but capacitors take time to burn it. That has been my experience so far and the symptom of the caps not working full capacity has been weak bass. Give it some time and see.
  3. bpribadi, ok, I can understand that. If the transformer you will use is small enough to fit into my casing I won't mind going that way too. Have you decided which transformer you will use? Unfortunately I know nothing about the rectification diodes etc. Thanks.
  4. bpribadi, Ooops sorry, sudah orang tua. Are you going to use a TLE for each channel in your PPA? Or some other arrangements?
  5. bpribadi - how much is a "cheap" OPA553? Is it possible to roll a BUF634 inside the feedback loop of the OPA for the virtual ground similar to the Signal ground of the PPA/Pimeta?
  6. bpribadi, I don't understand this statement, especially the feedback part. Can explain? Thanks.
  7. aaa - there is an opinion among some of the people in the diy community who feels 2 buffers per channel is optimum. I don't know myself as I have listened to amps with one buffer only. Will you be using perf board or doing your own etched circuit board?
  8. aaa - I have no idea who are the people you talked about. AhFart Audio is run by this guy called Robert who deals in tube diy. You can read his web site - ahfartaudio where he list his goodies. BTW, I have never met Robert but some diyers have.
  9. aaa, not the cost, the space and also my skill level. I am working my way up slowly from easier to more difficult. I just finished my pimeta which actually sounds fabulous but hands itchy to do something to fill the casings I bought. I have a rather short casing which I can use to make a portable PPA clone but with less parts, so that's what I will do first. I am , always do wacky things. Fun lah. Wow, you are really studying, man. BTW, will you get the Glassman diamond buffer, it is US$40 for all three channel but you have to do your own soldering. Slightly cheaper than buying 4 HA5002 per channel.
  10. aaa, >>We have the silver OCC 24 AWG for $16/m. teflon coated. Problem is, I won't need much, bpribadi wanted 20ft, you wanted 10ft so you won't make 50 ft right? BTW what is the cost per foot if you get 50ft?
  11. aaa, well done. Been trying to find time to understand the schematic. Am planning a lower end version of PPA. I am skipping the TLEs for each opamp, just one for all 3 opamp.
  12. aaa - Bpribadi and I arranging to go to AhFart to buy some, we will buy for you if you let us know how much you want. We are both thinking of one metre each. Thanks for the solder offer, bpribadi gave me some, should be enough.
  13. lengcm, how old is it and how much is it brand new? Thanks.
  14. Aiyah, have to swallow my own words about silver cable. Bpribadi gave me some silver solder and now got excuse to try it.
  15. bpribadi, my nephew has his harddisk crashed on him during the update and he had to re-install everything inc OS. The IBM workshop people recommended that SP2 be installed on a clean system, so you may have to do just that, ie re-install XP and the SP2 before other software. But updates on all our other computers went without problems. Phew! We can only tremble at the thought that MS try to get their software in car computers now. Turn the key and the car respond, GPF failure and shut-down???
  16. bpribadi, what is the purpose of R8 anyway?
  17. bpribadi, the OPA 2107 you put into my pimeta is very good. Been listening to it last night and today. Very detailed and yet not fatiguing to listen to. Definitely an improvement over the OPA2228. Yes, it's good. Thanks.

    My Cmoy

digi01, I can spare you a yellow and a red tin if you want. I am getting out of the cmoy tin market I am planning a pimeta in a nice case, no more sweet tins for me. Actually, I like the red ones better, got more punch.

zarchon9, very nice, very neat. Welcome to the DIY community.
  20. evo, why not go down to Funan and see the NTUC shop there, they have the Linux desktop there. Maybe you can use it? But if you want to play PC games, forget it. Linux is not so bad nowadays except if you have hardware which is very new.

    Capacitors

huangyong, it is Nichicon FineGold and I like their sound in the CMOYs I built.
  22. Will someone please post opinions of the audition? TropicalRips?
  23. HD, maybe we can use the chalet for the meet?? Just kidding. I am ok for the 8th Jan. For now that is.

    Capacitors

Thanks bpribadi. Perhaps we should have list of shops where we can get particular type of caps from, etc, and make it a sticky as well?
