  1. I was in a similar situation to pbandp. I bought a pair of HD497 thinking they'd suffice for music listening whilst studying overseas. After a week with them I couldn't take it and chanced upon a pair of Grados sr225. I also heard the sr60s around the same time period. I think hd490 -> sr60 is a sideways upgrade. I'd reccomend listening and comparing side by side before you buy. I think at least a sr125 or or 225 would prove an upgrade no matter which type of music.
  2. May i know how much and where did you get the chassis from? I just bought a 3U rack chassis in australia for AUD$95
  3. My preciousssssssss.. *strokes his yellow foampadded grados*
  4. Sim Lim Square 3rd floor, rear row of shops where the lifts are. Think the place is called Sigma Video ... Charges are between $30-80.
  5. Pretty pretty Wonder how it'd sound with the metal mesh removed from the satellites...
  6. Hi guys, Apologies for not replying, been busy this whole semester. I ended up leaving the cables alone, too lazy I tried stuffing the sub with 3/4 space filled with unspun wool, it tightens bass up. It sounds more tuneful and enjoyable now though I need to set bass to max and i cannot play louder than before as amp will clip. I also suggest you guys to replace the speaker cables. They don't need to be thick speaker cables, any flexible 2 wire cable will do. I'd reccomend belden microphone cable. The screen on that cable can be terminated at one end and clipped to any metal surface like CPU casing.
  7. I know a big majority of the forum lurkers/posters are students who are interested in getting good portable/home gear and hence price is an issue. I am one myself (student, not headphone) and whole heartedly agree with the statement made by MBD Boss. This is the sort of attitude that some dealers have as a result of the few bad apples and when newbie apples comes into the shop looking just like the bad ones (red in colour, a fruit, smells nicer tho, just kidding i.e. students) they get burned by the aftereffects of the rotten crowd. Hope you guys bear this in mind. Which is worth more, tens of dollars or your reputation? I should've mentioned this earlier but i didn't. I accompanied friend to MBD half a year ago. He was allowed to audition the sr60s (even tho its base model, etc etc) with the gear in the shop and eventually bought them there and then. I assumed the store policy have changed due to unscrupulous apples but thankfully its not.
  8. Hi nakedtoes, Perhaps you might like to think and read before you post, after all the very topic describes MBD NOT ALLOWING AUDITIONS. C h r i s Lame-posts-busting since 2004
  9. HAPPY BDAY KIDD!!!! I HAVE A PAIR OF GRADO SR225 FOR YA! BUT YOU HAVE TO COME TO BRISBANE TO COLLECT!!! I'd buy you beer but you're underaged. Oh well, i'll get it anyway and drink it in ur place
  10. Reminds me of this home video in a tv show where the robber was freaked out when he couldn't leave the store he just robbed. He rammed against the door with all his might till he got tired and still, the door wouldn't budge. Eventually the cops got there and opened the door inwards to arrest him.
  11. I agree. Notice her voice starts to sound bad only during passages where she sings loudly, its some sort of compression due to a sh*tty mastering/mixing process. The fake album could've gone through some mastering though. Only way to find out is to buy a certified original from HMV, etc but really.. why spend more money on such a boring album? Interestingly, this problem is not picked up on minicompo/budget stereos/pc speakers but on higher end stereos and most cans setups. Goes to show the more money u spend the less u'll like bad recordings. Unfortunately bad recordings are aplenty nowadays...
  12. Zap, It'll help your sales if you mention if it includes the 1/4" to 1/8" grado adaptor cable, grado extension cord, manual or box.
  13. Hacknet's right. Kimber's KCAG goes for $600 for a metre pair new. Pure Silver Sound Appassionata, $1k a metre pair i believe but is generally agreed to sound better than the Kimber KCAG. Whatever it is, start with good, decent, well synergised (aka sounds good already) equipment before splurging on cables.
  14. Jasonhanjk, You see but don't read Ruach stated earlier it has a wolfson DAC inside.
  15. *in the silence of the lingering evening... an arrow whistles by the crowded,. switftly, firmly implanting itself into fishball79's back* Ow. Aksa is a great sounding amp but $$$
  16. AHF Art Audio carried some neotech, i tried em on a friend's KEF/Denon ht and it sounded just like solid core cables should, fairly lean, closer to neutral with alot of details. Definitely not the kind to give bass in a minicompo. I suggest the fattest branded stranded copper cables u can shove into those tiny spring clips, perhaps u need someone here to send u those audio techinca plugs Whacking any seemingly superior cable (purer copper, better insulation, blah) might wow you with the transparency or details initially but doesn't neccessarily make the system more enjoyable. Cables is unfortunately, all about colouring the sound towards your taste so you'd have to really know which 'part' of the sound u need to 'fix'
  17. Sounds like the NACA4 Naim sells. If so it'll be pretty good stuff! Audio Technica sells plugs that accepts fat cables and has a very thin rod like lead that'll fit all spring clips, could be worth a try. Also, what are you expecting to hear when you upgrade the cables? Different cables reacts very differently.
  18. Sorry, didn't where to post my thoughts on meet so i make new one.. pls don't hantam me! I know i came fairly late and haven't really heard much but its great to finally put a face to the nick! Yours Speakers Rullingly, Chris PS If anyone heard, I also mentioned that you guys are 'so sad', i'll explain that later but its more to do with people here wanting a stereo setup and i meant that in a good way
  19. If u ask me it smells like those deliciously underpriced components on classifieds where the seller never EVER replies. One theory is that someone who's interested in the said component would post a want to sell at ridiculous prices in order to drive the perceived value down so he can have it for less than the seller would normally sell. Caveat Emptor
  20. Here's a pic I think blackgates and cerafines looks the best... but looks isn't important if u plug in a butt ugly cap and get glorious sounds improving over the pretty caps...
  21. Im coming too! Whee! heheh. Thanks to n@z for adding me to list...
  22. Hmmm perhaps you should add Sanyo OS-CON into the shootout, its pretty good and extremely value for money
  23. n@z, Where do i sign up for the meet?
