Huma, Try using your headphones with a dedicated headphone amplifier, if it still sounds this bad, try playing the same music with other (you would want to try better) cans. If the better cans are still like that then u know its the music. Chances are its the music

Klotz is this cheap ($4/m issit?) cable you can get from Hung Brothers in SLS. I also reccomend Belden's $1.50 microphone cable. for interconnects between PC and the pc speakers... first things first... (im not kidding) go get ear wax removal liquid from pharmacy... these are way better than cotton buds as they actually are bad for ur ears... when u start to hear everything then we'll talk

nice speakers joe, yeaps they make rock music... well... rock! I reccomend a used Creek OBH as well as its very cheap but is still a dedicated amp for headphones and will be a budget introduction to cans for serious listening.

Thanks for the input guys, I was hoping for more on diy amps though! My current cd player coupled with the grado cans is slightly bright and I am irritated only on certain albums. Anyway the RA-1 is SO cheap if i find a better amp (be it diy or commercial) i can always give it to my sr60 wearing housemate.

Good stuff. Don't you think its kinda sad that you end up knowing more than the engineer that mixes the music you buy... you end up correcting their faults as well as your own setup's in order to enjoy music.. I'm still pro loudspeakers tho... I want my piano to sound like a piano in front of me, not a figment in my cranium or around it.
