  1. microphonic. i heard it's quite common with tube. LD3 is also my first tube. i heard tube dampeners can help to resolve the issue somewhat, although i haven't tried. it's just not bothering me enough. on the hum issue, some people suggested the PSU to be moved away from the amplifier unit. see if that helps. are you sure it's the amp and not a source issue? on the burning smell issue, yes, i too experienced the same thing. now i just don't notice it anymore. maybe it's ok now? or it could be that i have just gotten used to it that i don't notice it anymore.
  2. renesis, PM sent. the only color she had were skin tone and a few fluorescent colors. no clear, black or white (that i can remember)
  3. yeah.. still can't decide between UE5C and UE10pro. anyway, it's going to be a looong while before i could scrape enough cents for them.
  4. where did you read the rave reviews about the EB? i think most people in head-fi commented that the EB has too much bass that it kind of masks the other ranges. i own the sf5pro, while i think it is a decent IEM, it can never compete with a decent home rig. with that said, i enjoy listening to them almost on daily basis on my 30-40 mins commute to work. the sf5pro has two balanced armatures while the EB has one armature and one diaphraghm driver for that extra bass. the sf5pro is deemed by many to have more than sufficient bass already, while retaining a better balance across the spectrum than the EB. UE is a great company with excellent customer service. my cable gave way during my christmas/new year holiday recently, yes, they're quite fragile. i think they must've been squashed somehow in my bag, i couldn't think of any other possible cause. i wrote a nice letter to UE about my situation the friday i came home, they responded right away. by monday morning the fed-ex guy showed up with a free replacement cable. mind you california to jakarta is not exactly a driving distance. i think i'm saving up for their custom IEM..
  5. my apology to all. & thanks to the moderator who's kind enough to help me move the thread to the right forum, instead of deleting it straight away.
  6. i got them done in sydney during my vacation there. they are actually just regular silicone molding, with holes carved out after the mold cured & hardened. the lady who did them normally makes custom silicone mold for hearing protection (for motorcyclists) and for swimmers. she was kind enough and willing to give my IEM a try. i really think the people at your local hearing aid center should be able to do the same thing with your ear impression. i gave the contact number to another head-fier (sydney based) and he actually had his er6i done by the same person a few days before me. he was also very happy with the outcome (comfort wise). my seal wasn't very good at the beginning, but i later found out that i couldn't get a tight fit between the tip of the sf5p and the inner hole of the silicone. so i ended up permanently fixing the plastic cylinder that was originally used to fit the foam tips with super glue. they were already detached from the foam tips anyways, it is virtually impossible to take out the foam tips without ripping them apart. the super glue ended up filling the gaps between the IEM tip and the silicone body. i'm left with fixed adaptors permanently glued inside the molds, now i can swap tips easily (not that i'd want to..) so the seal is good now did i mention they're comfortable? but i have to admit, they're not at all discreet. now i look like someone with hearing problem & couldn't afford a good hearing aid. i think i need custom IEM soon.
  7. here's the new silicone toys i got during my christmas/new year vacation. while they don't neccesarily look pretty, they are very comfortable. seal is also relatively good (between foam tips and grey silicone tips), but more importantly, extremely easy to achieve and maintain. as soon as they slide in, all it takes is a little jiggling to sit them properly. i don't lose seal when i talk or chew my lunch. they really make me want the custom IEM even more..
  8. here's serial no. 16 http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c4/shochulucu/63ae40a6.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c4/shochulucu/b0cf5ef8.jpg
  9. doh, i forgot. 25kb is the limit on head-fi. sgheadphones is 100kb. no, i meant that sgheadphones server won't allow me to attach anything above 100kb. how do i make the file size of my pic smaller withut downgrading the quality?
  10. i'll be away for holiday until the 3rd. i'll try to post some impressions when i come back. anyway, i wanted to post some pics of the amp. but the size is limited to 25kb? how can i post a regular 100+kb pic?
  11. finally... after months of frustrating delays, my LD3 arrived in my HK office monday. got here (jkt) yesterday. it's burning in. since it's my first head amp, i really have nothing to compare it to. sorry.. before this i've been using my old denon integrated amplifier.
  12. i'll be in melbourne dec 25-27 and dec 30 - jan 3
  13. hmm.. should we try to arrange for a sgheadphones/head fi mini-meet there? i think we should definitely try the custom tips if they indeed could make one for the iem. which one are you using? just the ability to maintain seal through lunch or yawns are incentive enough for me. not to mention the comfort too.. so what do you say? are we going to get them done together??
  14. hansel.. too bad i'm in jakarta and not in singapore, otherwise i'll be knocking on their door first thing tomorrow morning feather.. thank you so much for taking the time to find the thread for me. i'll be aksing the guy about his audiologist. i'm definitely going to be in sydney between christmas and new year. if the audiologist is willing to give my UE super.fi a try, i think i'll be more than willing to let her try. if this is successful, i'll post a follow up after i come back from my vacation thanks dudes..
  15. feather, i tried searching head-fi for your info & couldn't find it. maybe you can find it for me? i'm going to melbourne and sydney in a few weeks time, if i can find the audiologist, i want to do a custom mold piece for my super.fi. thanks in advance. hope you can help me out.
  16. if somebody provides this service in SG, i'm also interested. anyone tried contacting the hearing aid disributors?
  17. yeah.. i kinda figured that out a while ago. but i've tried to email and PM yang a few times without any response. i just thought that now he prefers to concentrate on building instead of selling. besides, now that he has a distributor, if he keeps on selling direct to the end users, who in his right mind would want to order from the distributor? the two probably has some kind of mutual understanding about this. just my opinion.. of course, i could very well be wrong.
  18. i actually bought my unit from his US contact and had my cousin who lives there sent him a USPS MO. mr yang will ship the unit directly from ShenZhen to my office in HK (saving me a big DHL airfreight to JKT)
  19. i have been waiting for my LD3 to be shipped for a long time. it has been delayed a few times already. i hope to receive it hopefully soon. can't wait. this will be my first head amp, i previously just used the headphone out from my old denon receiver. i had to pay usd 262 incl. shipping to HK. i'm taking care of HK-JKT shipping myself via my regular courier. from the pics above they look quite decent, although not to union research's standard i was hoping for. btw, saw musical fidelity's x-can v3 at the local JKT hi-fi shop here. asking for about usd330. are they any good? head-fi review has not been very good to them.

    HF-1

Scratches ya loh deep one also. only at the bottom part of the cups. This seems to come with all Grados. My SR-60 and 2 other people's ones I know also have those at the bottom. i think EVERY plastic grado cup will have the mark. it's where the cups breaks off from the production parts, i don't know what it's called, but if you've build some tamiya cars you'd know what i'm talking about
  21. sorry forgot to ask in my post above, how's the syngery with low impedance cans like grado & alessandro? warmer, fuller, and less bright?
  22. sorry, in the subject and copy body you mentioned that the model of your unit is 708A, but i couldn't find any info on the 708A on the xiang sheng website. only the 708B is available. also, the pics you posted was that of 708B. would you mind sharing what the difference is? and how it affects the sound? thanks
  23. yellow looks extremely cool with my MS-1.. why the hassle??
  24. it took me about 100+ hours before my MS-1 shows its true personality. i have no other reaso to think that grados will be any different. that said, all grados do have a strong forward presentation that can also be painfully bright to some ears. you could try swapping the bowl pads to the flat or senn 414 or even the comfort pads that come with SR60. what other phones have you tried? sennheisers is the complete opposite of grados, with its warm and laid back presentation. maybe you should try to audtion them. or maybe you should try tube amp? i'm told by a lot of people that the warm sound of tube is a great way to counteract the bright grados.
  25. it's a good thing i just paid some money for a used RS-2. no money left for headphones now, all gone.. hehe.. otherwise it'll be another headache. just need to get an amp now.
