  1. Not sure if this has been posted, I just got myself a pair of MS1 so I was digging around for mods and found this site with a collection of it. Tot I'll share this for everyone's benefit. Cheers! Grado/Alessandro mods
  2. Wood cups one, looks like it might give a better sound stage. Nice mod
  3. Nice mod, does it fit around ur ears properly? Any changes in the sound signature?
  4. true, 12au7 n ecc82 still ok but the 19j6 needed for the starving amp is a headache man....
  5. Hi Guys, I'm quite surprise no one made this post yet. Pretty sure some of you have been checking out the DIY scene at headwize and head-fi. Anyway, for those who have been missing out, we might have some new stuff to play with soon. SOHAII-PCBs coming soon Millett Starving Student-Can be made P2P or if you're not confident, the PCBs are on their way too.

    Grado RA1 Clone

I bought a similar kit but its a DAC with RA1 clone circuit, used a TLE2426 to create a virtual ground (thanks to tangentsoft's site for this tip). Saves loads of space as it's using only cap and a TO92. Gonna try using the DIP8 version tat comes with noise reduction cos I'm thinking of powering it off a 12v AC/DC adaptor. Keeping my fingers crossed on this cos many are commenting on how noisy it is running an amp off a wall wart.

Hi Feesh, just curious, did u make tat power supply out of the cmoy schematic to create a virtual ground?

    1W card amp

Thanks for the tip heady, btw, do you think any sort of grounding will help?

    1W card amp

hmm... worth giving it a try, funny thing i notice if i shield the circuit with my hands from my lamp, the hums goes away.

    1W card amp

Made the same kit that zer061zer0 made but the noise was quite bad if you're using it as a headphone amp, but quite ok if you use it power those little portable speakers. Can't really seem to get rid of the noise even with higher resistor values or cap change. How's this one?

nice, any idea what opamp this new kit is using?

    Clean power tweak

Thanks for the advise heads up heady! Good thing I asked here first!

    Clean power tweak

Lower impedance? but it's optional, Heady's link shows the setup using one for tat purpose, it says 'the optional capacitor provides an even lower impedance path for noise'. But is it neccessary for AC?

    Clean power tweak

OIC, for DC throw in the rectifiers, for AC its without rectifiers since trans are already outputting AC. I suppose throwing in a bipolar cap is a good idea for AC output too right?

    Clean power tweak

Thanks for the advise , Planning to try out the SOHA with a normal 15v AC-AC adaptor or the toroid transformer first before moving to that. Any idea if this would work with a toroid transformer?

    Clean power tweak

tats new to me, I didn't know schottky diodes has such a function, converting AC to DC. Since SOHA's using 15V, I suppose we can use the diode found below? http://sg.farnell.com/9843787/discretes/pr...onductor-1n5817

    Clean power tweak

I m definitely gonna be watching this thread see how you guys progress. Will be good knowledge for a newbie like me as I'm looking for a good power source for a SOHA build too BTW, any idea wat value schottky diodes it's using?

Not exactly wat i need but thanks anyway.

haha! see u're itching again. btw, ur sony output is it 24VAC, 1A? U can let go one to me if it is, cos I'm looking for one for my next project.

    Clean power tweak

nice find, just curious, is there any real difference in using a off the shelf power adaptor and a cleaned up power source like the one above?
  23. Thanks for clearing up this doubt, now I can make a solid decision to skip making this
  24. Hi guys, I've been thinking of building a dedicated power supply for a SOHA or Millett max amp, but being a newbie in electronics terminology, I've got some queries. In the schematics, it shows DC out but both of the above amps requires AC. I kind of know AC and DC are different but one statement stated under 'Power transformers' on the parts page prompt me to ask this question. Can the AMB Sigma11 be used for the above amps?
