  1. haha coz I dun wanna buy the fixed 12v and -12v regulators those 2 extra heatsinks are not really req, but being kiasi, so just put there but I think can do without. totally no heat out of it but the heater sink is a MUST trafo I bought the 2 koba has extra 2 trim pots due to using adjustable regulators I found out the stupid hum just due to the damn contact of the screw on connector sheesh I accidentally pulled the cables from trafo and the board then hum went away hahahaha so silly
  2. trafo's fault? but I've tried grounding the input to the op-amp (L channel only). then turn it on. no hum on L channel, R channel has the hum. so I dont think it's trafo's problem. if it is, it should be there no matter wat, am I right?
  3. not sure how much as some of the parts I've already had them, but shd be less than 100 a lot less I'd say
  4. I've posted in headwize for help look here for my posts: http://headwize.com/ubb/showpost.php?fnum=...=47187&fpage=20 and this: http://headwize.com/ubb/showpost.php?fnum=...=47193&fpage=20 I've recorded down the hum, and analyzed the spectrum. turns out to be 50Hz, which means from the mains, am I correct to say so? grounding, I use the big copper line at the bottom wat do you guys reckon causing the hum?I've tried to shield away the signal lines as you've seen with all those small wires twisted around the signal wires then ground one side of it. only the lead wires to the tube that is not shielded
  5. yup both I got it from them but for tubes, alternatively u can get it from well audio in burlington for 80c cheaper and different brand mine is Rohren von Weltruf not sure if it means anything trafo, ermm I think I got both of wat they have for 15-0-15. farnell selling it for around 10 bux, checked that out so wanna build SOHA instead?
  6. kippei: i did this one: http://home.swbell.net/acavalli//images/Ca...Heater_1.07.gif using Jfets as CCS as shown there. all parts are obtainable easily. but of course, you've gotta solder point to point project discussion: http://headwize.com/ubb/showpage.php?fnum=3&tid=5896&fpage=1 the good thing is that, according to the 3 guys designing SOHA, all parts are cheap generics yet give stoopidly good sound (stoopid word borrowed off wat they declare anyway, SOHA = stoopid op-amp hybrid amp) take a look, then tell me wat u think. if u want, i can help u. no worries neutralzz: I've moved back the trafo and the switch like 5inch from the tube, but rather close to the PSU part of the amp, around 2 inches however as I've mentioned, I've tried putting alu foil around the trafo + switch + fuse. still can hear hum I've put 300ohm at output. still can hear hum. my headphone is hd497 32ohm
  7. standing but errm no solid support beneath just my lead wires do U think that's the cause?
  8. same here I've got my SOHA up and running, however there's this hum quite irritating. for the supply, already using LM 317 and LM337 for the op-amp trafo has been put around 6in away. dang dunno wat's wrong hmm, maybe shield the trafo away using alu foil?
  9. hmm then I consider myself lucky choosing not to build millet
  10. wat kinda tubes millet need? I've just got my tubes from koba fuse errm can be left out supressor, not very sure. coz SOHA dun need one
  11. http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=154664 free millet boards!
  12. I've also asked him for the tubes but too bad his place is damn far from mine and kross, u got ur hybrid tube working? or havent started? I'm thinking to do it this long weekend almost got all parts already, sans the casing as usual
  13. tubes can be obtained at koba just checked with them EDIT: pricing is similar to well audio labs so ur choice is dependent on which shop is nearer to ur house
  14. how can u get shocked? do u wear a lot of polyester on ur body? @@ btw, for the sleeve, I can give you FOC as I took them off every single SPDT switches that I've got. hmm, but to make sure that it'll fit, pls measure the diameter of ur PA2v2 switch
  15. EQ on ipod is done digitally, so the line out taken off the dock is certainly a line-out, after EQ-ed by the DSP inside ipod This matter has been discussed in head-fi forum as of the ipod universal dock, I dont have that either. What I do have is the old dock (4G and 3G), that dock doesnt let ipod to control the volume when taking the signal off the line out

  18. errrmm how confident u're in doing DIy bookshelves? involve a lot of woodwork which is very impt to the end sound quality IMO from what I've read in head-fi DIY bookshelves can sound very nice, too but I myself not experienced at all so yah, read more I guess... any other opinions from other more experienced members?
  19. wah why shove the responsibility over to newbie? old bird shd go help
  20. why not take a pic of ur integrated amp let's see what I can help you I'll try to guide you as much. are you convenient in doing the soldering urself?
  21. hmm UM2 will benefit from amp I've got one pair 4G ipod -> DIY line out -> DIY amp (3 channels CMOY2, heavily mod) -> UM2 then yesterday as I need to cut down the weight I carry, I left the amp and line out connector at home sounds really different no kick, cant drive even an efficient UM2 so yah You wont go wrong with amp-ing it even a simple CMOY can help
  22. hmm then I'm wondering how r u going to change the op-amps around? or the DIP socket put into another DIP socket? I think I'll grab some and try
  23. the name of such PCB is brown dog adapter aint that cheap alternatively, bpribadi has written a simple alternative way to the brown dog adapter however, both ways require you to be able to solder SMD parts
  24. or point to point soldering Pimeta is not that hard I think
