Having said that, anyone can help me source a good price for a Nikkor AF-S DX 17-55mm f2.8D IF ED & a Manfrotto 682 monopod? New or used. Also if anyone hears in the grapevine someone selling a good used Nikon (or Fuji with Nikon mount) DSLR around ±$1K I'd be interested, as long as it has a vertical grip (not 3rd party jobbies).

Can't say much other than comparing the tech specs since I've haven't tried out a D50 yet. If I didn't already have the D70 I think I'd certainly be interested in the D50 had I been given the option to choose. As blues mentioned the use of SD card is a plus since I had a few of them. I was actually contemplating a top end Prosumer before I took the plunge so the D50 bridges the gap even closer than the D70, not only financially but also dimension wise. The money saved on the initial cost can go to getting the obligatory accessories, not to mention better glass. In fact the 350D would have been tempting as well since having an option for a vertical grip is a bonus if you shoot portraits alot. Much like audio (D)SLR ownership can become like a money pit as well if you're not careful.

That's a pretty good budget. For something you can wear in a rush I wouldn't recommend canalphones if you've never used one before as it takes a while for you to get used to putting them on & wearing them. If you don't mind wearing full sized closed headphones, for starters I highly recommend the Sony MDR-7506 which should suit the type of music you mentioned. Costs

Some basic questions you should ask yourself & clarify here: What specifically about the bundled iPod earbuds that you don't like? Fit? Comfort? Not enough bass? Vocals doesn't sound clear? Inadequate isolation from outside noise? Do you have any specific budget in mind or is money no object? Do you have any particular preference on the type of headphone you'd like to use? Earbuds, canal type, clip on, behind the neck, full size? These will assist to narrow down the suggestions/recommendations made.

Thanks you're too kind! The photo below is a gaint pseudo McLaren F1 car mock up for the night time procession which followed before the fireworks display.

heady: Fireworks display for Sultan's 59th B'day. Blues: Attached image cropped, rotated & resized only. Not a very good shot as you can see, lots of noise. I couldn't manage long shutter speeds handheld to get the light streaks without the rest of the image getting blurred, hands too shaky. Not so easy on the slope of a roof! It was an impromptu shoot. I had no idea what exact time it was going to be on & what direction. I just rushed to the roof top when I heard the fireworks going off I'm sure I mentioned about the VR a while back.

I forgot to bring my tripod so had to rely on high ISO & VR to compensate for zooming at max. It still looked mediocre so desaturated it & played around with contrast/brightness to add a sense of drama.

Taken a couple of weeks ago with myself perched on the pitch of the roof of a flat.

Only the PX200. It would help if you elaborate a little further what you are looking for, sound is subjective to individual preference/taste.
