    New AKGs

happened to go over to the AKG website and noticed their 'new' phones... 'New' AKGs K324P - AKG's 'new' canalphones... taking a leaf from Senn CX300? K412P - anyone want a blackified K24P? K518DJ - how about a blackified K81DJ? K530 - if black is not your thing, how about a honking white K301? btw, any chance of these phones turning up in s'pore soon? *nudge nudge at Aron and Wilson...* The black K81... er... K518 is tempting me...

not often I come across a phrase in English that i'm totally unfamiliar with... From wikipedia: To be sent to Coventry is to be ostracised, shunned, or otherwise systematically ignored. Some believe that the phrase dates from the English Civil War, when a military prison was located in that city ... The phrase has been adapted by internet forum programmers, particularly the popular vBulletin program which has the "Tachy goes to Coventry" option where a forum administrator can cause a user to be automatically "ignored" by all users (rendering their posts invisible).

    ipod battery DIY

a quick google yields... How to change iPod battery
  8. you said you wanted to copy mp3 from iPod to computer right? now you can what... you never said anything about copying mp3 from computer to iPod...
  9. on your iTunes, not on your iPod... 1) connect iPod to computer, start up iTunes. 2) on iTunes, look for your iPod properties/settings. 3) do as evian said re post #7. 4) do as i said re post #5. and... voilà , as the French would say...
  10. ... 1) set your ipod to function in disk mode. it will appear as a hard-drive when you connect it. 2) find and copy the music folder (and all the songs) onto your harddisk. 3) er... that's it.

[off topic] er... prefix comes before the word, like the 'pre' in 'prefix'. if the addition is at the end of the word, it's a suffix [/off topic]
  12. I bought mine from Hung Bro for $46 back in march... I got a 2nd pair at $23 (incl shipping) from the Mass Order from Amazon... unless the s'pore distributor decides to charge reasonable prices, otherwise, i'd recommend you get it from Amazon, esp when they have a special offer.
  13. here's something you all might not have noticed: 1) Apple gets a license fee for every official "Made for iPod" accessory sold. The more accessories Creative sells, the more Apple earns. 2) "Apple can recoup a portion of its payment if Creative is successful in licensing this patent to others" quoted directly from the press release. In other words, Apple gets money from Creative if they succeed in getting other MP3 makers to license their 'patent'. Effectively, Apple has become co-owners of the patent... and yes, like heady says, Creative is now *obliged* to defend their patent against other 'infringements', ie everybody else who is making MP3 players. And with Apple's $100 mil, they now have the financial ability to sue everyone and anyone. And since they 'won' vs Apple, their case is now watertight. In other words, every other MP3 maker will have to cough up... and Apple gets a share of it. $100 mil is small change...
  14. I've seen people wearing: Koss Sportapro Audio Technica ES5 Grado SR60 Some big-ass Audio Technica circumaural (not the Art series) that I don't recognise. it was kinda beat-up and the model number is no longer visible. Probably a monitor, M series perhaps. More Sennheisers than all of the above combined: PX200 mostly, PX100 sometimes, and PMX100 once. A fair number wear clip-ons (incl myself *grin*), mostly AT or Sony stuff. Sony streetstyles also seem reasonably popular. But i've yet to come across another KSC75 user... where are they all hiding?
  15. I've tried the K27i and K81DJ at SE some time back. In my opinion, it's a no-contest, K81DJ is much better sounding. K27i's cups are small, around PX200 size which means how they sound depends on how they fit. For me, the sound was unimpressive. Loud, loose and lackluster. Flimsy-feeling construction doesn't help. Furthermore, the premium charged for these phones for simply being ipod-white is, imo, ridiculous. The only positive, to me, is that it's small enough to be truly portable.
  16. yah, in case you are not aware, the SG part of SGHeadphones stands for Singapore... while there are some globe-trotting forumers around here, let's just say our expertise does not exactly extend to shops in the Washington DC or Nashville TN areas... Perhaps raising the question at head-fi.org would get you a more useful response
  17. i'm using Ericsson Z200 Basic phone, no camera, no MMS, no MP3, no fuss ... & above all, cheap but alas, it's approaching the end of its useful life after 2+ yrs. Saw that Singtel is offering Samsung X680 for free... is it any good?
  18. a *PC* for graphics? oh, the horror...
  19. No one answered his question? Adelphi is near City Hall, opposite Funan. You can find Music By Design and Jaben there... CWP = Causeway Point at Woodlands. You can find Stereo Electronics there...

    Hobbies

Things i have spent time & money on... Manga/Anime - romantic comedies to be precise. giant robots fighting each other can be cool, but wears thin after some time... Online comics - there's a whole world of talent (and boundless oceans of crap) out there... for free Apple computers - yes, i have exchange the tyranny of redmond for the cult of cupertino... Wine - i have about 2 yrs supply of grape juice at home... Computer games - i usually play blizzard games solo & i've decided that WOW is an expense i can do without... Online games - Hattrick is a superb football management game... i'm also starting to explore Dofus...
  22. Stereo Elec and Jaben definitely can audition. Hung Bros, it depends...
  23. i've tried most of these cans... PX200 - seems to be a hit or miss thing. It didn't fit me, so it was lousy for me. Furthermore, at about $100, it's no bargain. SR60 - nice open sound. But size and openness means it's not a viable portable option. iGrado - no idea what they sound like... gotta wait and see FC7 - it's closed. I've tried the FC5 and it was decent, but unimpressive. FC7 has the short cord with extension system which some may find bothersome. AKG K26/27i - same size as PX200 (ie v small cups) and same problem with fit. Also, i was unimpressed by the sound... no good. Koss KSC35/75 - I have the KSC75 (and also a 3G iPod). Great sound and IMO, great synergy with 3G iPod. Only lack of isolation is a problem. I'll 2nd joi-ful's recommendation of K81DJ. Of the portable closed cans i've tried, it certainly sounds the best. Only problem might be comfort. Best thing is to audition for yourself lah
  24. ok, got my extension cable, loaded up some songs and enjoying the shuffle now compared to my 3G iPod... shuffle sounds a bit muffled, bass seems stronger. my 3G iPod has clearer, sparkly(?) treble. maybe shuffle need some burn-in? maybe my ears too used to the bass-deficient 3G iPod sound? btw, in case anyone is wondering, my shuffle came pretty much flawless... i think Apple is quietly running down stock of 512MB shuffle (by selling them as 'reconditioned' stock...). There'll probably be a update to the shuffle line soon...
