This thread deserves a bump. I have been using this mod for about 6 months now on my UE 5 pro. Isolation increased by a fair bit, bass feels much tighter now. Note: I found a better ear foam that will make this mod perfect. Head over to Guardian Pharmacy, look out for a product named "EAR plugs" (yes it is spelt with capital EAR). It's packaging is yellow in color, and so is the ear plugs inside. It's rated Noise Reduction Rating of 29 Decibels. What i particular like about this ear foams is the high density of it. It is not as porous as the one that is recommended. Do give it a shot!

what player did u use? Could be te equilizer on the laptop. or lousy integrated sound card.

the bass on ex70 is stronger than 5 pro, but its very muffled and dont have the punch. 5pro,s bass is tight and punchy, although not as strong. One thing to note however is ur taste for sound. At first i was addicted to the bass sony provides, however after switching to um-1, i realised i enjoyed clarity of sound over heavy bass. Next switching to 5.pro, i realised it maintained it's clarity while adding more bass comparing to um-1 due to the dual drivers. =D and it's still my current love. oh the 5EB bass is overkill. I got a headache after testing it for 15mins.

Just wanted to ask something as this is my first amp I bought. I realised I needed to turn up my volumn on amp as compared to unamped. I turn the amp to 50%. Is this normal?

could be the quality of mp3 u r playing. Try to use it for playback from a cd and listen again.

lol... sf5 eb bass is heavier than um2. Im sure of that. tested both out before. actually for superfi series, i guess the isolation losses out to westone. Using the double flange improves the isolation further, but causes the earphones to stick out more. =x

what kube pointed out is what i feel as well. When im listening to rock or metal, i usually require bass to 'feel' the music. It sets the tempo and keeps me upbeat when im listening to the song. However, for classical pieces, i would prefer less bass as i would want to focus more on the clarity of each note played. =)

hey xenocide! That's nice but the lines are not as strait as the ones in the pic. Maybe you want to try using grit 1000 sand paper to straighten it out. Dont worry, grit 1000 and above are usually very fine. I use them to polish the base of my cpu heatsink. =)
