do the panas have lineout?

i've only heard the SA7000, and the main impression i got was that it was very analog sounding. i did not try the SACD playback but heard only the red-book performance. very musical in the typical Marantz mold and u can listen hours on end without your ears getting fatigued. i can only imagine how much more awesome Ken's mod will be. both my rega apollo & oppo players could hardly compete in staging, depth or air. at double the price, you'll be hard-pressed to find anything that can match the Marantz. i'm seriously considering a xmas purchase.

8001 is the US model. the local version that uses torroidal and copper chassis is 7001KI. helluva bargain at around 1k sgd at KEC in adelphi. and with slightly better specs than the US. SA7001KI

the 880's forte is playing jazz & classical and has wonderful upper mid energy. it just doesn't have enough grinding bass detail for your genres. for that u need something like the Denon D2000. it's just the way electronica is produced and it needs really low, tight bass details. u can also try the DT770 but the bass resonance might be too much for non-bassheads. the DT990 is better, but the bass on those beyers in stock form compared to the lows on the Denon, is just to full and rounded to extract the required bass details in electronica.

for that price, it had better sound good for MM speakers. the Dynaudio room at the recent hifi show was one of the better ones.

i use both Noontech and TViX with excellent results. got 500GB ide HD for both units and the plug N play solution is wonderful on my 1080i hitachi plasma. i play AVI movies mostly. highly recommended!

i second this recommendation. just heard the P2 and it blows the itouch for sound quality, especially thru the headout.

don't forget the HeadRoom Millett at 649usd, well within your budget. it's well-known to drive both 701 & 650 very nicely.

and i can bet it easily thrashes the ipod in sound quality.
