my findings are the exact opposite to yours with regards to the iQube. it's easily better than the pico/predator with top IEMS like Shure 530/Westone UM2. it really is more transparent and natural than the other 2. use a good source playing back FLAC and the better differences is as clear as rain. i agree with you on the diff between the pico & pred. and i'll take the pico over the pred anyday due to the pathetic burning-in issue of the pred.

this "hollowness" could come from the silver master. try a pure copper ic on it and it'll be a lot different. there' no right or wrong here, just a matter of matching.

the K5 is an excellent sounding source which makes a good match the the SE530, no need for external amping. but the K5 is not capable of playing back lossless. just rip in 320kbps MP3, it'll still make a great playback combo.

sounds like XP is the true upgrade to vista.
