  11. hi northern oak, i would love to diy - most of my stuff (except for the cdp setup) is diy. i was thinking of using cardas or kimber cables - but what about the connectors? u mention using the stock cables - i presume this means gutting out the stock cables from the connectors? is there a stepped recipe anywhere on the net? any suggestions would be most appreciated. cheers
  12. hi, what aftermarket cables would you recommend for the senn hd600 and who is selling them in singapore? thanks
  13. for soldering stations, go to kaichin, 3rd floor slt - they have 2 weller models (variable temp) that are going for a song - i bought mine more than a year ago and am extremely happy with it until i suppose a hakko falls into my hands at the same kind of price which i think is very very unlikely
  14. hi, with so many of you guys into the 880s, im getting tempted - im quite happy with the senn600s but at the same time im getting a bit itchy to try something new - so the question is where can i get a good deal on the 880s? thanks in advance Y

    Crossfeed

crossfeed has its place in some recordings i suppose - for example, last night i was listening to john coltrand and don cherry - 'the avant garde' - without crossfeed, john coltrane was smack in the left ear and don cherry smack in the right - very uncomfortable and unrealisitc soundstaging - engaging cross feed brought these 2 players closer so that the the soundstage is seamless from left to right. same experience with alice coltrane's 'ptah the el daoud' - joe henderson in the left ear and pharoah sanders in the right - crossfeed solved the ping pong effect. but then the newer recordings seem to benefit less from the crossfeed - engaging or disengaging crossfeed does not appear to make much of a diff in soundstaging - but what it does is to kinda soften the top end and lend a 3d effect somewhat - still enjoyable - i guess im hooked onto the crossfeed effect
  17. earbleeders....probably a mismatch - maybe the krell amplification is the cause of it
  18. hi, its easy to use - its flows easy and dries up easy and quick - less incidences of cold solder joints. as for sound, some people hear it some people dont - i remember buying a solder with some silver content from a shop in slt - sounded harsh to my ears - my first experience at 'listening' to the solder. personally i use kester 44 and wonder solder - i cant tell the difference between these 2 though - but i guess, with audio, just knowing youre using something good brings you that much closer to the music yes?
  19. anyone has a friend with an $80,000 system that sounds like crap? i do.......and my friend thinks he's go the best hifi system in the world because of what he paid for it....haw haw haw...me ....i got a homemade tube amp, peanuts for the front end and mini monitors - homebrew cables - nothing much but i use these to clean my ears and restore my sanity after having to listen to my friend's eighty thousand dollars hi fidelity seestem..heheheheh.
  20. hi, i was looking for this sometime back but have set aside the project in favour of a tube headphone amp - probably the morgan jones amp - but when i was looking for this - i shot an email in the direction of TI and they sent me info on how i could get sample pieces - free. so id suggest emailing texas instruments in singapore - tell them what you need and they should get back to you with instructions which could have you getting closer to your amp
  21. if looking for exotic solder - try well audio - burlington sq - wbt solder - robert of ahfart - wonder solder - dont know if he has cardas. kester 44 is pretty decent and available at basement slt - next ot the escalator - look for the corner shop selling batteries and soldering stations - its got a counter that runs across the length of the shop -so its not the kind of shop that you can walk into - you do your purchases over the counter
  22. certainly - i have done so and i will continue to do so - and if i dont get service here - heck, i let my mouse do the walking and my card do the paying but seriously, i think most folks wouldnt mind paying a bit more for that extra personal touch and friendly unbiased advice. environment helps - but for me personal service counts for a lot more - some of the shops in adelphi - which shall remain unnamed - had very very humble beginnings at out of town locations - small dingy cruddy showrooms - hardly what one would consider an environment suitable for auditioning hifi - but these guys had hearts of gold - loiter around the whole day, listen to whatever you want, take it home and auditon - seriously - it was all ok - and damn good advice. not all shops offer this - how many at adelphi will do this? very few - handful - less than that - i know who they are and i do biz with them - the rest - can go suck air
  23. hi ablaze, cant say much about klotz im afraid as i havent tried them out - im quite happy with the beldens so i dont think id want to change - that said, ive heard pretty good things about klotz - arent these the cables that rega is using? shilelding is copper braid.
