    HT amp upgrade

Thanks Mackie! I do not have an urgent need to upgrade for the time being. However, want to try my luck on non-japanese AV amp again, is Harmon Kardon anything worth considering? BTW I think they are black

    HT amp upgrade

Mackie, does it works? I ever consider this option but most DVDP have no volumn control and the power amp has also no volumn control. AV receiver may be a solution but seems not common and if available seems expensive.

    HT amp upgrade

Nobody mentioned NAD. Is it that they are not so good in the area of HT?

    HT amp upgrade

Thanks very much Mackie. The reason I asked is because from the price point of view hard to believe a 5 channels 80W $500+ AV amp can do an equally good job against a $400 320 BEE. I will check them out as advised.
  5. Was trying to get an iPod Shuffle and as expected out of stock and long waiting list. The salesman claimed that the performance of Shuffle is best in the iPod family. I have doubt that this small little thing (literally the size of a thumb drive) can out perform its big brother. Any body in this forum lucky enough to get hold of one already?
  6. I am using a NAD 320BEE 80W 2 channel amp on my HT system. Just wondering if I were to get a dedicated HT amp (thinking of NAD or Marantz) what price and power should I get in order to get equal or better 2 channel performance as the 320BEE? One of my friends told me the HT amp power are spec differently in rms, so my NAD 80W is bigger than a HT 80W is that true?

    ripping SACD's

I guess it is the normal CD layer that is copied, though I have not CD-copy any of my SACD yet. The SACD layer is different from normal CD layer and thus only a SACD player is able to read that layer. To date I have not heard of any SACD-RW drives yet and very much doubt it will be available.

    papaya86

Hi! Papaya86, glad to know that u have made a right decision and now happily enjoying music with your HD600. Do try it with classical music and it should be a very good experience. Enjoy!
  9. Have not heard or seen tube amp of this price range. Lowest I ever saw was a $500 small China made tube amp at Adelphi and $600-$800 below 20W amps from Leo Singapore.
  10. Wow! 1.3m! I used to use bag for my long telephoto lens for shooting wild life but the lens is about 0.5m. Good luck and hope someone can recommend u one.
  11. Erik Satie is alien to me. Classical? Can papaya86 or Laomao elaborates more for me? Thanks.
  12. Happy birthday to u, my friend! Happy New Year!
  13. Hi! Mackie, why is it the pitch control mandatory for pro-audio use?
  14. To me, yes and I am quite happy with this silver coated copper cable. I have no big problems with its stiffness also. N@Z is using Clou Red also. I have no intention to change to other cables at this moment.
  15. I bought my Clou Red for S$257 inclusive of UPS shipping. I ordered from Headroom and got it 2-3 days later. However people seem to prefer Cardas and the rest and I guess that is why Headroom no more selling already.
  16. I got my Clou Red from Headroom but recently they do not stock Clou anymore.

    New Toy

Hi! Leng, first time I heard 4 types of tubes in 1 amp. Is this a typical high end design? I thought normally there are only 2 sets of tubes (or at least those my friends owned used only have 2 types). Knowing tubes will affect the sonic characteristics, what will be the case for an amp with 4 types of tubes? I suppose the preamp tubes and the power tubes will play bigger roles in terms of affecting sonic characteristics of the amp? U must be having a very good time with your new, sexy toy!
  19. Another very very good old recording: Belafonte (the singer) at Carnegie Hall. Recordings were done in 1959, live at Carnegie Hall, but certainly can put many modern recordings into shame. This is one of the few times where the recording microphones happened to be at the right time and the right place to capture an inspired moment of performance. I am not sure how to classify this performance but I think can consider as folk songs all over the world. The familar ones like The Marching Saints, Day O, Jamaica Farewell, the very funny Mama look a boo boo, another very funny Man smart (u can even hear Belafonte turned his head while singing), the romantic Come back Liza, Danny Boy and etc, and the last track Matilda, the famous uncut Belafonte live 11 minutes performance where u get full scale involvement from the audience, the musicians and everybody else in Carnegie Hall. Available in CD and SACD version.
  20. This is a very good recording by DG 447 403-2. Wolfgang Schneiderhan's violin solo is well performed and full of energy. He is supported by very good Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Eugen Jochum. Recording of the solo violin and the Orchestra is well balanced, IMHO. Cadenzas used was from Beethoven, adapted for violin by Schneiderhan himself. Personally I prefer the cadenzas by Kreisler but I would consider this one of the better recordings with candezas by Beethoven.

    New Toy

Nice looking tube amp (anyway tube stuff are always nice with those tubes around)! I am not familar with Cary. Is this an integrated amp with headphone out? If it is only a headamp then I think it is huge! What tubes it is using(sorry I know nuts about tubes, although heard of KT88 and EL34 but cannot recognise them)?
