  1. Hey anyone here tried the K701 with the beta22? I heard its real good...
  2. For the ASIO stuff, there's a great article on it at Head-fi.org, just search for it there. I don't know about the stereo to 4 channel DSP thing, but why you need a 4 channel output? Unless your system really has 4 output channels, I don't think there's any point.
  3. Ahh well that's true. I would love it 100% if the <80Hz region was slightly punchier. But I'm super happy with my ER-4 as it is now. I think I am a very lucky person Er frankly atrios and ER-4 are like 2 ends of the spectrum... Both have their excellent points. ER-4 is extremely detailed, and don't let the common complaint that "ER-4 has no bass" get into you. Yes ER-4 isn't a bass monster like the atrios, but the ER-4 HAS very deep tonal extension. In short, the ER-4 has bass, just that the bass response is flat compared to other IEMs which have the bass slightly boosted. Well the ER-4 and CK7 are like totally different levels of sound quality, and I suppose the cost also follows.
  4. Hey just out of curiosity, do these music downloads sites offer lossless formats?
  5. This looks exciting. From the review it looks like really promising. I want to try it!!!
  6. Yup. And its pretty good for the kind of price.
  7. Yep if not you can always send back to shure.
  8. Yeah will boost the highs. Should sound good.
  9. Haha sad musicians make very beautiful music too, albeit a little depressing at times. Like Tchaikovsky. His stuff seems to have this sad overtone. But very beautiful nonetheless, definitely one of the world's most fantastic art. Let's face it, I think we have many fantastic music out there just for piano alone for us to keep listening on for decades. Our generation is also blessed with a number of very talented pianists. What we seem to lack are recording engineers of the same passion. I fully agree with you, every good recording is a timeless piece of art. It is a rare gathering of the best composers, pianists, and recording engineers. This is especially difficult since art was always subjective, whether you like the music of the composer, whether you like the interpretation of the music by the pianist, whether you like the interpretation of the sound and acoustic space by the recording engineer, for all these elements to come together to truely excite me, I always take it as a gift from god. Hm must go try your recommendation. The last recording that excited me was this recording of Rhapsody, Op.79-2 by Brahms performed by Jorg Demus, and that was quite a few weeks ago... Time for more excitement
  10. Hohoho there's even the ER-4 bass! I love the way these things go all the way down. Though you'll only get it with good amplification. Um you better try 1st. Later flame me for recommending ER-4 to you for bass
  11. Hey you should try the KSC75 also. I didn't fancy it much before, but when someone let me try his modded and recabled ones, I'm sold. For that kind of price, you get more than fantastic performance. Wow.
  12. Wa then I must be guilty of lousy ears also Haha IMO no such thing as lousy ears, only sastisfied ears. Hm I had the same impression as you, the bass of the IE8 was really a little too much for me, and also quite uncontrolled. The sound was also vieled, and I just can't get that kind of sonarity from a violin that I have on my ER-4. It was generally quite laid back, I suppose that's the kind of standard senns use maybe. However, having said that, someone who has used the IE8 and burn it in commented that after some burn in the bass tightened, and the vieledness and laid-backness was decreasing. I'm not too sure how the IE8 would sound after that, but it does sound promising. Never take the other side Count me in!
  13. Nope the Etys do not have customs. But I'll say that if you haven't settle on a particular sound you're sure you like, you had better not get sleeves 1st because although the sleeve will fit others (e.g. etys sleeves will fit the hf-2 and similar series, UE sleeves will fit the Senn IE 6-8), the sleeves will only fit very few other models, so as far as practicality is concerned its not wise to hope that should you find a more loved IEM your sleeve would fit that. Wow you plunged 1.8k just like that? You're v lucky it suits you perfectly man...
  14. I think i finally found a way to espress this unsastisfaction of mine with piano recordings. Let's try: The piano is in essence a percussion instrument. Sound is produced by the hammer hitting the strings. Thus a piano has this percussive quality, this "twang" sound, which is completely lacking in recordings. Somehow the piano seems sterile after going through the mikes. Any views on this?
  15. Hm Heady I share the same view as you. For me its partly because I love my ER-4's too much already. It was my very 1st IEM, and until now I'm still loving it. Nothing has made me remove them so far. IMO, actually custom sleeves are very affordable. Lets put it this way, the cheapest full custom IEM (i.e. livewires) is around $480 (Jaben retail price IIRC, though they have specials for it). This is about the same price if I made custom sleeves for my ER-4 ($250 for sleeves and around $300 for ER-4), and at the min I know that I'll be getting the sound of my favourite IEMs. So for me its definitely the sleeves route. Not to mention that the ER-4 sleeves would fit onto a few other IEMs (saw someone using it with another one before, forgot what was it though). Moreover, should the sleeves or drivers breakdown, it is much simpler task to get either of them fixed.
  16. Hmm interesting. How does the zero compare with the DV? Frankly speaking I haven't tried the DV337 yet, I only tried the DV332 and LD MK II - V, plus a few more solid state ones including the GS-1.
  17. Might I add on my absolute favourite to this list: Etymotic Research ER-4 (or its cheaper brother ER-6) Hohoho you love details? Look up
  18. Haha no la i'm not a professional musician or anything. But as correctly pointed out by fuwen, somehow good recordings of piano is very difficult. I don't know how to describe it, but if you have ever heard say a real live pop band vs a recorded one, and a real live piano vs a recorded one, you'll be very surprised that somehow the former could sound very similar to the original, while the latter just fails. Its very hard to describe in words, its a bit like "describing architecture using dance", but if you ever heard a real piano you'd be quite surprised that even v good systems fail to reproduce the piano sound realistically. Well if anyone happen to know a good recording, let me know... For now as fuwen quite accurately pointed out, there's A LOT of good piano music, we just have to make do with what we can enjoy...
  19. Wow nice work! Could you do that for the K701?
  20. Hi guys, can anyone recommend me some good recordings of the pianoforte? I love pianoforte solo music, partly cause I play the piano myself. But so far I'm quite disappointed, simply because I haven't found a sound that sounds close to a piano. It might be my playback system though, but in any case recommend me some good recordings! Thanks!
  21. DV amp? How does it fare with the K701? I'm currently using the Zero DAC as source, and am using the internal headamp of the DAC. Which unlike what most ppl think is actually v good (maybe its just me), though slightly grainy and lack that extra bit of seperation and midrange warmth. Having said tt its really v good already. I'm looking mainly for something with greater clarity and detail, and also more midrange warmth for those male voices.
  22. Hey found this old thread... So what's good with the K701? I'm looking for an amp now...
