    Question

Until you can get better mp3s with no crackling, you will only be amplifying the crackling sounds. No point at all. Personally I would advise against getting an amp.
  2. Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile No it doesn't a bit fragile at all. Papaya, try out other BBC sessions as they are mostly well recorded. Pink Floyd has 2 BBC sessions.

    Question

Some songs have crackling built in due to poor mastering like most of the newer pop cds. When the mistake is from the cd itself, there is no way to correct it. Of course, transcoding (mp3 - wma) might worsen the problem too. What's the point of converting mp3 to wma? It would be better to leave it in the original format. An amp won't cure the problem if it is in the source.
  4. Try People's Audio in people's park complex. I bought my DM7 (3cd changer + amp + speakers) for less than $629 eons ago. Didn't know DM3 is so expensive. I thought it costs less than $500. It might not be so value for money after all.
  5. some pictures of blingbling and fatboy here.
  6. for the ripping of cds, i use EAC. Once you set it up properly, the process of ripping is almost done. It compares each bit on the cd at least twice to ensure that they are the same. Thus you get high quality but at the expense of speed. Once on the harddisk, I play them back using digital out of my soundcard to a DAC. For playing of cds, I either use a external NEC 602 cdrom or a denon cd player as a transport into the same DAC. Of course, the transports do not sound the same. But they are to me very similar with the main sound signature attributed to the DAC. In fact, the soundcard sounds better. I use my headamp to etys.
  7. it will be great with rock and heavy metal if you can add a subwoofer to it. I have a Denon DM7, top of the line back in 1998 i think and felt it is a very good value for money. I still have the system now. It can't be matched for the price unless you go for separates or 2nd hand. Remember, this system is well matched, ie the cdp, amp and speakers gell together and have synergy. It will take time and cash if u want to assemble your system piece by piece to match components with great synergy together.
  8. hmm I haven't noticed any difference with .wav XRCD files compared to the original cd. Even HDCD signals can be copied onto wav. Maybe the philips pcdp is really better than the shuffle.
  9. Are you Sphongled? another electronica album
  10. i think it is silver. headfi has some pictures.
  11. Some of you hardcore tweakers might find this interesting. Superballs! i haven't played with them in decades. Anyone know where to get them? Kids nowadays play with PS2 and xbox instead of the 'traditional' games.
  12. you bought them? I am thinking of buying the new version of MS2.

    advice needed

i connect it directly to the soundcard. hmmm mp3 player doesn't sound the same as a Revo... So if possible, try to get one to try at home.

I tried connecting my headphones Beyer 880 and Ety 4S to the Revolution 7.1 and haven't heard any hiss. But that doesn't mean that you won't get any hiss with the highly sensitive grados. And using grados with that soundcard might be overly bright. I haven't tried that combo before but previous experience with grado tells me so. In other words, try before you buy.
  16. woah i won't try washing anything that costs $1000. my etys filter required changing when a little drop of water contaminated it.
  17. You might want to check out printing shops in SRC(near restaurant) and arts.
  18. Doesn't NUS CBLC offer such services? You can print double sided too. Business library also offers printing using cashcard.
  19. you need to have more ultraman to complete the family.
  20. I got started in 90s music before working myself back to the earlier roots of music. Yes pink floyd is really amazing especially The Wall. Still listen to The Wall once in a while. I also have Dark Side of the Moon but it just didn't capture my attention. Somehow when i listen to it, I get absorbed into the little details instead of the music itself. Like wat av98m said, good music is still being made but you have to spend some effort looking for them. Radio or MTV is never going to be a good source of music. IMHO, change is necessary or else we would still be listening to classical till this age. Nothing wrong with classical but it is nice to have a wider choice.
  21. papaya86, how old are u actually? If you are really born in the year 1986, you have exceeding mature taste in music.
