  1. speaker wins hands down, if you have the appropriate amount of money spent on speakers and amps. But for poorer people, the only way to hifi is headphones.
  2. I'm getting confused by the 3 words above. First of all, many people said that the AKG 501 has superb soundstage which I agree. Therefore soundstage to me means that instruments can be heard coming from different points. Secondly, I've read that people said Grados have great soundstage too. But based on my listening experience using Rameish's highend Grados, they have very little soundstage. Instruments and voices sound like they all originate from the same point. Unless I'm very much deaf, I don't see the reason why grados can be described as having a good soundstage. Maybe soundstage to them is a different beast all together. Sometimes I see headstage and soundstage being used interchangebly, so I presume soundstage are more commonly used to describe the phenomenon on speakers while headstage are used for headphones. Lastly, what exactly is imaging? I also read that grados and etys have great imaging. And from Northern Oak sticky in the main forum: Imaging - The sense that a voice or instrument is in a particular place in the room So isn't imaging=soundstage=headstage ?
  3. Rameish will be the regional one-stop headphone centre if he carries on like that. How about the allesandro grados?
  4. nah I don't think they only have slots for 10 people. the more the merrier.
  5. try out m-audio revolution as well. the audiophile 2496 replacement. There is currently a mass order for it on nartz forum. http://www.nartz.com/forum/showthread.php?...=&threadid=2477
  6. perhaps you can try shipping via ships instead of flight. very slow but cheaper.
  7. thanks man! will check it out soon.
  8. ablaze, possible to have a profile system like head-fi? Cause as more people join this forum, threads like this will be difficult to maintain.
  9. Yes they do allow you to try it out. But what's the use? U are soooo far away from cash converters.
  10. to them, your headphones are just another headphone. Just bigger and weirder looking. Sony charges damn high price for their repairs. They wanted to charge me $160 for repairing my discman. Doesn't seem to me that they want to find out what's wrong. They just replace the whole damn part and ask you to pay for it.

    it's here!

tried adding a DAC? Almost bought an ART DI/O to complement my CD player and future revolution soundcard. But guess I'll bear for a while and get another CD/SACD/DVD player quite some time later. Digital players are improving very quickly now.
  12. Well, I tried selling one of my friend's MD player and they offered it $60 for it. After some time, I saw another of the same model at about $130 for sale. So I guess your pdcp player won't be worth much if you sell at cash converters. Maybe at most 30-40. Don't try looking for Hifi stuff there too. Mostly receivers and home theater that are antique and lousy brand. Haven't seen any of the much touted tube marantz amps there too.
  13. Who said I got it from singapore? Bought it second hand from the head-fi. Really, the gear for sale forum there is great.
  14. ablaze, have you heard my Sony CD1700s before? Some people said its different from the 3000 and yet some said it's a smaller version of the 3000s.

Yeap, to some people who have better or trained ears, a change of amp may have a very big difference to them. Slightly deeper bass and wider soundstage may signify 30%. But to some who have not trained their ears, they might think that its a waste of money. 'What I spent US$400 and got this in return? Just more bass and soundstage only wat??' Wow N@Z quite a good guide on how to write reviews. How come I don't see any from you?

I've checked 2 gramaphones and few sembawang music stores but can't find. They do have some Telarc and other Hifi cds but none that I want. I'll check out the Aldephi music stores first before troubling you tanghy.

    Demo CDs

Anywhere in Singapore to get the Stereophile Test CDs, Chesky demo disc or things like that? How about SLS or Aldephi?
  19. why don't you get a m-audio sonica? It has analog and digital out. Should be much better since the dac is external of the laptop. And you can still access your collection of mp3. The only thing you'll need is a usb port.
  20. Saw some koss ksc 50 at borders. not sure about the ksc 55.
  21. If its not a EMP or a RKV, then it must be a Berning ZOTL. Right?
  22. Please don't go around mucking with the internals and end up damaging another headphone! Hehehe. Enjoy it first before dismantling the whole thing. Or else it might last a few hours only. The philips are not exactly well made as I read so take care when taking it apart.
  23. Yes we already experienced the Rameish friendlyness at his house for the first head-fi meet. Highly knowledgeable and recommended.
