  1. Rameish Definitely correct based on current exchange rates and it is the 220/240v model with 1 yr warranty. Like I said, just over. Will pm you. The laid back sound of the Stax gives it a much bigger out of the head soundstage, more akin to listening to spks, which I find more appealing. Also I feel that they have the most comfortable cans for long term listening. Anyway, the prices for the system are much cheaper than if you were to buy the components individually, so do consider. The good thing about the system is that the amp and cans are already matched.
  2. Well at 3x the price, the Omega ought to be better, but whether its worth 3x the $$$ I am waiting to hear the classic and signature earspks and compare the 313 and the 414 amps to see if the tubes really make that much of a difference. Have a kangtao to get the Signature combo for just over $2k. Anyone interested?
  3. Barradio, have you heard any of the Stax family yet? Was looking through their website, and it seems that the headamp can be used to drive a poweramp. Dunno how it will sound or whether the impedence will match? I think this will be my last can, really, really , else my wifey will
  4. Montoya drove well, but got stuck behind the back markers Button is a dark horse, got lots of potential. Renault should have kept him. I think the interesting thing from this race is that the BAR car was able to keep up and even beat a Ferrari. Now that's something given the budget they're on. Watch out Mclaren and Williams
  5. Wah, the Omegas, but production of the IIIs should be delayed for sometime since the IIs are so popular. Can't wait to audition them. Big bonus? My budget now extends to the 3030, unless the 4040 has some magical attributes. Omega's too rich for my blood.
  6. These were terminated with Neutrik connectors. Selling off as I upgraded. Used for only 2 months. $25 for a pair. PM or call me at 96934369.
  7. I have just heard what is possibly one of the most detailed and refined cans around - the Stax. Although I only had the opportunity to listen to the Basic 2020 system, it still sounded far superior to dynamic can I've heard. Given that it comes with its own dedicated amp, the price at S$980 list can best be described as a bargain, highly recommended for classical, vocals, jazz and even pop, perhaps with the exception of rock. I heard a not run-in pair, so the bass should improve. Great stuff. For those interested (hint to HPC), Kingsley will be bringing in the 3030, 4040 and the Omega II(I think) shortly. Adhoc, for classical music, this can is ideal, beautiful tonality and inner detail.
  8. Ok, apart from the Ety 4s, I'm not looking for in-ear types, which would be the next most detailed, full range can?
  9. Hi all Just looking for subjective opinions on this. Which can you have come across which offers the most detailed reproduction, and yet sounds natural, neutral, musical? Pls state which amp(if any) was used.

    Baroque music

Bach's Orchestral Suites Corelli Concerto Grosso in F Vivaldi 4 seasons For more info on Baroque music
  11. One of the best recordings around, even better than many modern "audiophile" recordings. Excellent recommendation. I have both the CD and LP, and the latter is so real, that you'd think they are in the room singing.
  12. evil-zen Thanks for the recommendation. As with most high end stuff, it gets pretty personal and if I haven't heard the MS2, I won't risk the plunge, although I must say its very interesting. Unfortunately, the review of the MS2 did not compare it with the SR325, so again I'm still left with unanswered questions. BTW, I did not find the SR325s bright, in fact, it was pretty neutral to me. How do you find the DT880s compared to the SR225s?
  13. The Grado SR60 is a very good can at that price range. Comfort is not that bad, just have to widen the headband so that it doesn't press your ears too much. If that is too much, then the Senn PX200 is worth looking at for $90. Not familar with the Philips.
  14. Well it was connected to the Cary 303/200 and a CEC preamp (can't remember the model). Care to explain what I think I was hearing, Naz?
  15. Hi Matbon, there's nothing to forgive, after all, I was looking for opinions. Have you heard the midrange Grados before? Or even the RS1/2? Blues, yeah I guess the RS1s needs the RA1 and the 325's alu look is soo cool.
  16. Had a good listen to the SR225, SR325 and briefly the RS-1. I thought the SR225 was already good with a bit of the Grado titzy highs, but the SR325 was even better, extending lower while having a smoother more coherent high-mids, overall a much better presentation. I have no idea if it was related to run-in or not, but these were supposed to be demo units. The surprising thing was the Rs-1s which were a complete disappointment It had a really odd hollow sound, like I was listening through a tube. I thought the driver was damaged or something, so I'll reserve judgement for now. For now, if I consider a Grado, its the SR325 for me, but at $520 a pop, think I'll need some 2nd opinions from the more experienced contributors. If you have heard the Grado line, what'dya think of the impressions I got.
  17. Rameish, given the cans that I already have, and if my ultimate is to have better soundstaging (ie something open), with the speed and intimacy of the W100s, which can would that be? Would the SR225 fall into that mix? I'm heading down to MBD to listen and bringing my W100 for some A-B tests. Hope they don't mind.
  18. You are not happy with the PX200? Or you want to have a change?
  19. If you go the website, there is a writeup on how Pentatone was setup. These guys are quadraphonic supporters, dating back to the Decca/Philips days. Cool. For these SACDs, the surround version is certainly much better than the stereo version. I get good soundstage layering and hall reverb on my HT setup. Yes, the Beethoven is the SACD hybrid version. I think its only a little behind the LP, nice to listen to it without the ticks and pops. The last and only time(so far) I went to the durian for the Tokyo PO concert, they were performing Beethoven's 5th. Quite disappointing acoustics - too much absorption. Went home and played Kleiber's version on LP. Now that really put a smile on my face and tears in my eyes.
  20. fuwen Tried to get the Stravinsky, but couldn't, its out of stock. Instead I got the Mozart and Felix Mendelsonn Violin concertos and Tchaikovsky Serenades and they were fantastic. Extraordinarily well recorded on SACD. Also picked up the Beethoven 5 & 7 symphony by Kleiber.
