jtfoo 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2003 I am building one gilmore amp.Looking for help to get all the components. i also need some advice in matching the resistors, LED, transistors.Thanx. Good luck on the transistors.. I've put on hold the gilmore project because I couldn't find the 2SK389 & 2SJ10 locally.. Maybe you can ask those stayng outside of S'pore to order for you. Matching LEDs,another nightmare. You'll need to bring your muiltimeter to SLS and test the forwarding voltage of the LEDs. or if you're rich, buy the whole lot and test at home. Sorry if I sound discouranging.
YLS 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2003 I am building one gilmore amp.Looking for help to get all the components. i also need some advice in matching the resistors, LED, transistors.Thanx. jtfoo is right, matching those components is a nightmare, but no pain no gain, the sound from Gilmore is worth for a nightmare.. try to look for the 3mm red LED, some of them is 1.6V, but some are 1.8V.. try to get the same BL/GR/Y grade on both the 2SC/2SA TRs.. N@Z 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2003 Excuse my ignorance, what's the purpose of the LEDs on the board?
jasonhanjk 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2003 For the servo feedback on the Gilmore. The LED drains current so that the servo will work. The purpose of the servo is to make DC offsett to near 0.

jtfoo 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2003 ysl, I see you have the 2SK389 and 2SJ109 in your board. Where did you get them?

Q00 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2003 how come this board has so few capacitors...? its HUGE...with a lot of resistors...
YLS 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2003 Hi, guys, nice to meet u all, Those leds + the TRs nearby set a 1mA current source for the 2SK/2SJ dual FETs.. The capacitors near the power socket are an optional, just incase the power supply is place far from the PCB board... I'm from HK
jarthel 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2003 how come this board has so few capacitors...? its HUGE...with a lot of resistors... the amp itself has only 2 capacitors and they are not in the signal path. and that is how Mr Gilmore designed the amp. Read the project site in headwize.com and you'll clearly understand the reason behind the design.
Northern Oak 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2003 (edited) I guess the majority of caps are placed at the outboard regulators. Edited September 12, 2003 by Northern Oak
