N@Z 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2004 (edited) Saab 9-2X Saw this in December's issue of Motoring & my jaw dropped even before I saw the new 618 Scaglietti from Ferrari. What's so special about it you ask? Well apart from being a totally new Saab model... wait for it... it will be based on the Subaru WRX impreza! Whammy no.1! It will use Subaru's flat four engine & have similar door/roofline/interior. Whammy no.2!! It is expected to be built in Subaru's manufacturing plant in Japan! Whammy no.3!!! Apparently GM (General Motors) who own Saab completely also have a 20% stake in Subaru. Note the 'X' designation signifying AWD. As usual there will be a turbocharged Aero version with a mouth watering 224~227bhp 2.0L engine. Basic is a 155bhp 2.5L (Legacy?). I want one! Finally, what does it really look like. Well, it really does look like an Impreza! Assorted photos Try the interactive tour Edited January 2, 2004 by N@Z
evo 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2004 saw the pics it seems to be offered in "stationwagon" bodystyle only sigh...that type not very popular around here the saab brand is not that strong as compared with subaru over here maybe if its priced below the WRX unlikely, but since Aero version is around 220+bhp, its performance is not likely to trouble fuji heavy industries most precious baby me, i'm more excited by the fact that caterham cars are in malaysia, the closest to singapore than has ever been a bright yellow caterham 7 classic is good enough for me... just RM130,744, but of course that's with +++ behind it
N@Z 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2004 Oddly enough the estate/wagon style a bit of a niche here, for the sporty family man. I certainly doubt it to be priced lower than a WRX. Imagine the maintenance cost. The Sweedish cars have never really been about all out performance, it's all about real world driveability & midrange punch for effortless acceleration/overtaking without having to rev so hard. It's ok now & then but gets kinda tiring after the novelty has weaned. Cateram is nice as a weekend car for someone who already have a daily driver.
evo 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2004 real world driveability & midrange punch agreed a turbo kicks in after roughly 3000rpm in this case saab can wind down the boost and go for a LPT "low pressure turbo" design easier than winding up a vtec engine to the heavens [5000+rpm] i've tried it in a civic esi b4, and although it sounds nice, its too tiring then again, saab may not do that, cos they're on a cost-cutting exercise here reducing costs by just changing the exterior to suit extg internals... that's what all car manufacturers do nowadays most blatant recently are the lexus rx300 / toyota harrier twins they don't even bother to change the exterior... augustineRS 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2004 just counter the turbo lag with anti lag great balls of fire. vtec kicks in at 4400 rpm? thats mine but i did a computer change and retune the fuel/air ratio with cam adjustment. I really enjoy this forum now.Prior to head fi, i'm a motor head.
evo 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2004 ALS-anti lag system think only group 'N' rallycars [& onwards] can use that system it would be prohibitively expensive & don't even think of going anywhere near a LTA inspection centre or the boys in blue a wicked idea no doubt, seeing spitting flames from car exhausts at your normal HDB neighbourhood road junction normal people would think that your car is spoilt or about to explode:)
augustineRS 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2004 there's a system that emulate ALS but it doesn't really do the anti lag. it simply create the spitting fire. Great fun though.Imagine traffic jam and there's a motorcyclist behind...

kenshinz 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2004 Hehe....spray some hair spray into the car exhaust, then start your engines guranteed got spitting fire even better, stuff a potato into the car exhaust after the hair spray and you'll get a potato cannon LOL Disclaimer: I was just joking. Anyone who tries the above mentioned method are doing so at their own risk

N@Z 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2004 True but you never know the feeling until you drive/own one the word that comes into mind is Glorious! I used to own two. Everyday it was like an adventure. However for practical reason & the brain finally took over from the heart. I'd still want one though expecially one of those V6 GTAs. cmk, the car in the second photo looks more like a production car, what/which model is that? N@Z 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2004 Sweeet! The closest thing I'll ever get to a Ferrari. Gorgeous interior. http://www.alfacentro.com/features/gt_coupe/images/p11.jpg http://www.alfacentro.com/features/gt_coupe/images/p10.jpg
augustineRS 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2004 I'm instill with that Alfa idea from my old man. He's one big anti Alfa. It does ahve the Selespeed controls? Most of the Alfa does have it? Very nice interior, but, to me, i find the dials abit overelaborated. augustineRS, post photos of your car man! I only have a EG6, nothing much to show, pretty stock on the exterior too. Nothing much to show.
