RLN 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2006 So are these Ultimate Links custom made by Aron of Stereo Electronics?
[J]-ohn 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2006 (edited) Ok, my simple review on the Ultimate link Black Emperor. Outside, the Black Emperor cables have a very distinctive appearance, as far as interconnects go, they are quite thick. However, over time, this has gotten much easier to deal with. The trick seems to be not to be shy, and have a good picture in your mind of where you want the cable to go. Then simply bend the cable to fit. If done right, the very stiffness of the cable will hold it where you put it. Benefits of this cable's copious details in the highs were never diminished by any sense of splash or ring, and never came off as overly clinical in the least - never bright. That is, plentiful treble detail and extension, but very smoothly delivered and never fatiguing (unless the recording is fatiguing). it has both sparkling clarity and seductive lushness. Bass extension is deep and the presence strong The midrange emphasis can also pleasantly inject extra verve into pianos and stringed instruments. without a doubt, the Ultimate link Black Emperor, with its wonderful soundstaging, exquisite microdynamic presentation, just-the-right-weight mids, and smoooooth, extended highs. For pure listening pleasure, it was, overall, my favorite interconnect. (For now.....) viix 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2006 Yesh, the finish of the ultimate link doesn't look that pretty. Anyway what cables are within? I'm sure people are interested to know before plunging. Actually in terms of getting a neutral cable with good extensions on both ends, why not get Neotech's OCC cable? I have very good result with four runs litz braided IC of solid core pure silver wires from Neotech. It's is very revealing and might be "too bright" for some setup, but it's actually because of the level of clarity it gives to the highs, hence some people might find it bright.. I like this for my tube setup. For a more neutral or IMO wamer option is to have 4 strand Pure copper occ wire. Using this combi for my portable setup and it's is very flexible. Running pure silver as leads and PCOCC as return path as IC also can. Maybe stereo can make them?
Stereo_Electronics 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2006 First I don't yet have any Neotech cables available, I'm sure someone sells them in Singapore since they have a distributor locally. Secondly, I must stress that a cable's performance on different equipment differs greatly. Example tube and transistor, portable and home, CD player and MP3 player, most importantly, headphone - earphone and speakers behave even differently. viix: Like you say, you like the neotech silver on tube setup but since its not tube and its portable amp, results can be very different. As you might have noticed, quite a lot of portable amp users who uses LDM and crossroad suffers from lean bass and some harsh treble therefore silver cable in this case might not improve their situation nor wallet. Personally, silver cables are really nice sounding with a Crossroads or even on a LDM+, so it really depends on the type of sound you are seeking.

True, that's why the Black Emperor is silver-plated.
