Blues 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2003 mat, to my ears both sound abt the same. the iriver is a tad.. slow to my ears.. and the laptop has a sligthly more warmer sound.. but that's about it. in terms of detail, I can't differentiate 192 kbps lame encoded and the original cd out of iriver pcdp. matbon0013 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2003 Blues Guy, that's interesting! So you are benchmarking at 192k mp3, how good is LAME? Have you tried?
erickoh 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2003 I encode my mp3s using LAME, VBR mode. At about 192k the mp3 is indistinguishable from the original CD. (Check my sig)

Rameish 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2003 Okay so LAME here does not mean "it's lame" right?
matbon0013 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2003 It's another compression option for ripping CD's to mp3.
Wortel 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2003 LAME is my encoder of choice. I usually rip @ 320kbps - but most of the music I have is ripped by other people But most of my music is 192 - 128 Some 128kbps sounds nice.
matbon0013 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2003 for Mac Users- I've had this link that I kept but never exercised. Here for the one with iTunes plugin and here for a stand alone LAME encoder. Anybody who has tried it let us know the outcome, thanks!
