WatCult 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2003 Do you all think we should include cables? Ablaze: What about the cost of the pc/laptop? Seriously any good Audiophile CD-Rom or DVD-Rom for pc?

ablaze 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2003 a new Gilmore lite will cost at least $450 I think even a used Gilmore would be at least around there. no way $350 man!
Northern Oak 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2003 Seriously, with this budget, you may have to live with the stock cables and stock power cords. Good thing is at this price range, the power cord is usually captive (hope I use the right word) so it wouldn't add to your budget.
lekguan 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2003 (edited) I think should have some leeways for cables. Edited August 27, 2003 by lekguan
ablaze 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2003 Ablaze: What about the cost of the pc/laptop? Seriously any good Audiophile CD-Rom or DVD-Rom for pc? oops. assume anyone reading this post must have a PC/mac at least mah I think read some stuff about some of the older Teac or NEC cd-roms which sound pretty good out of their analog outputs. anyway, I think the $650 CD3Ks will work great out of virtually any source, amped or not so if I had $1k, I'd get that first! disclaimer: my opinions are mine and mine alone, and the true audiophiles in this forum will beg to differ
Northern Oak 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2003 Should be the TEAC, I guess!

Blues 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2003 source - marantz cd6000OSE/LE - 300 amp - 2nd hand x-can - 300 headphone - beyer 880 ? -
Rameish 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2003 Hmm... Beyer DT-931 (approx S$330 new), Grado RA-1 Clone (approx S$180 - S$200 with near premium parts like Alps blue, Neutrik Locking Jack, CMC RCA, etc) For Cardas RCA add $15 more, if you need crossfeed then Corda HA-1 (used - price ????), CDP - hmm used Rotel RCD-971 (I bough a 2nd hand one for S$450). Power cord - if using above grado and rotel then hey no need. IC - Kimber PBJ 2nd hand Interconnect cables and power cords are the safest bet when buying 2nd hand as you'll get a fully burnt in one for less than the price of a new one - check the connectors though - some idiots like to absue their connectors.
