aaah!! i so wanna go for this meet!.. but i m quite half dead studying for my exams here
-
lol i think i might be starting small first... probably modding grados into full woodies but have to note the acoustics of the coil, and properties of the resonant chamber, cuz the lower SR series have a non-resonnant chamber, versus the higher ends 325i and rs-1s with woodied resonant chambers. i guess its more of trial and error.. probably start with a long chamber and shortern it to my tastes etc haha.. :S~ i was thinking also that different major brands, their headphones have different properties, grados with the thump, senns with the laid back soundstage, beyers and their musicality.. hmm.. if to take it further, maybe a tri-driver headphone? with a internal circuitry into distributing the frequencies to the correct drivers in the right proportions they perform best or most uniquely at. (lol like taking bi-wiring to a higher level? )only problem is the positioning, difficult to generate a balanced sweet spot :S lots of trials and errors probably..

hmm.. anyone thinks its worth it to diy headphones? i.e. get some top end headphone drivers and diy something out.. probably something close to what headphile's been doing.. (although they modify a bit more based on current structures than from scratch) but i've been vv tempted to do something similar.. i even had the idea of.. super imposing 4 x grado sr80 drivers into a quad driver headphone in rectangular stax/akg sort of.. resonant chamber with the two drivers orientated in creating a convergent sweetspot by tilt adjustments per side etc.. or buy a couple of beyer dt880 drivers.. and.. hehehe.. spin something out?

erm not too sure of the confirmed price.. but i've seen them going at approx 15 sgd on echoloft

hmm.. i believe any modification on the output changes the raw timbre of the frequency.. frequency may be the same, but the timbre varies.. my dad used to emphasize a bit on timbre .. in the aspect of audio representation etc.. a sound with a basic frequency but no timbre is like a smooth oscillator or a tuning for maybe.. a note of 440hz from a piano and a flute can be of the same amplitude and frequency, but ones smoother the other one is different..

looks good.. i might scout for a 3.5 to rca tho..

converts digital output processes it and converts it to analog signal? i.e. digital cd output/computer digital out -> DAC -> Pre-amp..
-
quite difficult to make cuz most of the time good cables.. dont fit well into small plugs.. diameter prob.. :S 1/4 to 1/4 is quite comfortable... but 1/8..
-
earphone solutions? btw ever considered the westone um2s? very close price i m v tempted.. but i already have a dual driver
-
yup... um2 is very great value for the price.. 237.. i would give up the e4c for that though..

if working condition $100 is a very decent price.. for the cd74 a transport mechanism replacement costs abt $190 either at wo kee hong or elsewhere..very expensive.... therefore ask the seller how old is the player, how often used, and when testing load a few diff cds to see that it reads.. even my cd63 after repair, at times it doesnt read cd very well halfway during playing when i look for 2nd hand stuff i go to audio line at the old sembawang shopping centre, and so far i've not seen a marantz at that price of $100 either denon cd players are the most lasting ones i've ever used.. i've still got a 14yr old denon cd player that works quite well except the tray eject is a bit noisy. a pretty decent marantz on the market right now is the cd5400 i think.. abt 298.. brand new.. in some other post somewhere, it was shown that the marantz uses 1 4556 opamp for headphone out.. then again.. it might not sound as good as secondary amplification if you are using better headphones or those with higher impedences..
-
dont get the cd-63.. i've spoken to the guy who repaired my cd63 for the third time, the transport mechanism doesnt last. many people've gone to him for repairs
