  1. How did the Headroom Max sound comparatively to the Corda HA-1/2? I haven't had much experience with proper headphones but these are the ones that I have used in order of buying: Sennheiser HD565 Ovation (No longer in production & with me) Grado SR80 (No longer with me) Sennheiser MX400 (No longer with me) Sennheiser HD600 Etymotic ER-4S AKG K1000 (No longer with me) Koss KSC-35 (No longer in production) Grado RS-1 My favourites have to be the Etys, as most of you already by now from my other posts. No matter what my mood I like listening to them. With proper amplification they sound great. Major drawback is the cable microphonics but that can be reduced by running the cable over your earlobes. The most whacky is the AKG. I had them for the shortest time of a few months only. I couldn't get used to their sound & feel of them on my head. Given quiet conditions they sound very detailed like the Etys but I felt it sounded too bright for my taste. Bass is defenitely there contrary to popular belief similarly like the etys. Once properly run-in & using proper amplification. Had to let them go eventually as I couldn't justify keeping them even though I wanted to keep them for the sake of having different sounding cans for comparative reasons. Initially I thought the MX400 were the worst but with amplification they sounded better & suits portable applications better for obvious reasons. No longer have these as they were stolen with my Fixup modified Sony Portable Radio! I like owning different character sounding headphones as it suits me for my ever changing moods. Plus it's cheaper than having different source & amps. I'm pretty happy with what I've got now except I am looking for a full size closed headphones preferably from another different manufacturer more for general duty rather than exclusively for music. I'd like to upgrade my ancient Marantz CD-90 player too. Prefer something with HDCD capability as I feel the CDs encoded in HDCD sound much more detailed especially in little nuances of acoustic instruments.
  2. Blue is nice. I prefer the previous Headphone Fanatics as the current one sounds as if we listen to headphones made/sold in SPore only. No biggie though. BTW seems like you're the only person posting on your Watercooling site too!
  3. Thanks for the info El Scorcho. So you mainly carry headphone products as mentioned. Maybe the upcoming war had something to do with it their no response being in the US?
  4. If you have a chance to go to Malaysia, loads of original recorded tapes still being sold. It's still being sold here too. Especially cheap for us to get in Miri & Sabah due to the exchange rate.
  5. I awlays thought Tower & HMV would carry some 'standards' from Maxell, Sony & TDK.
  6. El Scorcho: Besides the headphones you mentioned what other gear do you sell? Tell us more about you company.
  7. Wow, maybe I should stop using my RS-1s on the MG Head OTL as well. But I use lower gain tubes (5751 & 12AUX as opposed to stock 12AX7) reduce the risk of causing the same thing happening or are there other issues?
  8. Yikes! I've only got about 200-300 LPs & similarly CDs! I think I'm going to start a new thread, you got my mind working on something
  9. Mackie: It's not necessary to delete the original ad even after the item has been sold. Your latest post informing that it was sold is sufficent enough.
  10. I wish I could just enjoy the music & not get immersed in the 'Quest'. So much simpler on my wallet & sanity! Having said that, I really enjoyed the article. I particularly found Test 2 quite insightful. Must remember that, never gave it much thought. The RA-1 example is great, must tell my colleague who owns one. Should make his day! Keep 'em coming Rameish!

I didn't quite understand your post: 1. Did you just left them on without any music when not listening during that week. 2. I'm assuming after you let it cool down, you powered them back up again. Was there any warm up done before listening or you listened straight away?
  12. Taking a leaf from your book, what equipment do you normally use?
  13. My MX-400 (same as the MX500 but without the inline volume control & in plain black) sounded great out of the Fixup modded Sony S84 portable radio. I suppose it works well with like minded/priced equipment which is it's intended use.

    Got my W1000

CYRUS 7?!!! I am sooo jealous!
  15. Hey I have the Nak Deck 2 too Rameish! But mine's not for sale!!! It's a full size deck not portable.

Got any details or link for the Andrew Heliax cable ablaze?
  17. I agree on the quality from Metal tapes but you'll need a really good (read: expensive) walkman to do it real justice. I remember my Sony Walkman Pro... ahh, those were the days. Too bad I didn't know anything about headphones then!
  18. The irony is this: I know a portable CDP isn't going to give me anything near a full-fledged CD Player so the Etys are somewhat wasted if you know what I mean. Oh I don't know, you might be pleasantly surprised the 4S is definitely the one to go.
  19. Why don't you consider a PCDP (Portable CD Player)? Since you criteria seem to be on sound quality. BTW the DT880 I believe are not closed headphones.
  20. Great read Ryan. Now I can't wait to try out (audition) the Cordas.

    Got my W1000

When you mentioned "I would say as good as er4p, " & "detail is not equal to bright treble and clinical sound here," that got my attention!
  22. Rameish, sit down please... give me your hand, now repeat after me, "The Etys will be the single most significant purchase I will ever make in my life." Repeat this Mantra. Now go out & get them!!!
  23. Alternatively if you already have a pair of interconnects you could just get an RCA to mini jack. In practice there is no real big difference in sound since you are only using a PCDP.

If you're planning to go DIY besides using the excellent Neutrik jacks I suggest you try using the braided cable JMT (Head-Fi) uses. I forgot what the exact name was but it is a silver coated cable with see thru insulator. It sounds quite good for such a modest cable. It will however be a little stiff due to the braid. You want photos? Oh all right... http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/naz7577/lst?...rc=bc%26.view=t Note that in this application the cables are used as a mini to mini but equally has been used as interconnects & even headphone extensions.
