  1. it's quite strange actually. to one person what is 'cold' may be clear and detailed to another. to one person what is 'warm' may be boomy and bloated to another. hi-fi related hobbies must be the most subjective in the world man.
  2. brass! i would have thought that it was gold plated-something!
  3. they are currently out of stock for the revo. i just checked a few days ago. they said they would contact me when stocks arrive. you might want to check out some stores on simlim square top level (6). i'm sure i've seen some not mass market sound cards there.
  4. kec audio does not stock nad anymore, i checked. the 599 price quoted to me was the msrp by the nad distributor in singapore. dont worry guys, thanks to you all, i will seriously be looking at many modelss before i take the plunge. dont want to rush into somehting and regret a few months later. hopefully this source should last me a long long time. till i get a $35000 linn that is.
  5. wah lao! i am the original dt880 avatar man lorh! heheheh...
  6. NAMES HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT Dear Aaron I went to the NAD website, it did not shown C541i in Titanium colour except burr brown which was close to Grey colour finish. 7. but.. you can't ever have too much of a good thing right?
  8. thanks mackie for the heads-up. i will make myself not commit to anything just yet. i will make myself audition everything first. must admit i am a bit swayed by the nad's (IMHO) superior design. this would be my first major purchase, dont want to make any mistakes and regret later. thanks to all those who have contributed in some form or another to this thread.
  9. the velour pads are large and quite stiff. somehow they feel they are stuffed with paper mache. but they are very comfortable. you hardly feel the cans on your head.
  10. got mine at the same time as guyferd. my sis was using my cdp so i decided to connect the dt880 to the computer first (onboard 24bit sound) to get a quick impression - was so excited, couldnt wait liao. but somehow the sound was.. wrong. alamak, no wonder, equaliser was on. after restoring balance to normal flatline, gosh. very large soundstage, that was the first thing i noticed. diana krall seemed to be singin in front of me. her voice was crystal clear and luscious. heard none of the sibilants that guyferd pointed out on jazz tracks but some did present themselves during some 'heavy' songs (disturbed). bass was -clear- and deep but lacking punch, that was the second thing i noticed. will post more impressions as i go along. but whatever it is, must thank mackie for getting these cans for us as such a special price.
  11. right now i'm considering the nad c541i at 599. i doubt we can get a power buy for a source, it's already relatively cheaper in singapore. unless of course you also want to get something from the same brand as me.
  12. thanks for the offer mackie. i'll check my schedule and get back to you k?
  13. thanks mackie, i'll be paying them a visit sometime this week then. thanks again. and concerning my dt880s, i think i'll pick it up this thursday. see ya then mackie.
  14. evil zen, actually, both the denon dcm380 and the c521i have 8x upsampling. both are 20bit also. after all your input, i think i should rewrite my preferences: 1. good sound- preferably 20bit (or higher ) w/ upsampling, but if it sounds extraordinary, i dont mind. 2. good price 3. good looks 4. reliability 5. remote and anyway, as for cd-rs, thankfully i have one of the better burners on the market - liteon 52x24x52x. just get the ricoh golds and burn at 1x and you almost wont be able to tell the difference. fishball79, do you have a link to that looooooooooooooooooong article? and does anyone have some tech specs on the cd6000ose and ose-le versions? the marantz website is pathetically skimpy on information. so far the contenders are 1. denon dcm-380 2. nad c521i 3. marantz cd7300 4. marantz cd6000 ose (le?) [not sure] does anyone have comments on NAD products? i have a friend who tells me that they generally sound better than denon products.
  15. firefox, noted. thanks. fishball79, no problem. btw hrmm, i have a friend working in philips in engineering, does this mean i can upgrade my transport by ordering superior parts direct from her? anyone got info on where to look at the C521i in singapore? am getting very very interested in it.
  16. oh and one more thing that's confusing me. fishball79, what's a transport? and i assume when you say DA you mean DAC? still newbie what.. you all must understand..
  17. ok update so far these are some prices i've been able to find. these prices are meant to be a guide and give me and you all an idea of where the prices are going. nad 521 (non-I version) - $340 marantz cd400 - $219 both from http://shop.store.yahoo.com/merdeka-sg/hom...eo-systems.html anyone else got any ideas where else i can find prices online? or anyone remember prices they saw? and of course, could someone please point me in the right direction where i can audition stuff? what i'm worried abt is that due to my tender age (18, & single if you're wondering. heh.), they might not take me seriously. this setup will be used almost exclusively for headphones listening only. so mackie, you'd better go through the entire shipment of dt880s when they come and pick the 'nicest' one for me k? heh.
  18. ok all, here are my priorities. 1. good sound 2. cdr/cdrw compatible 3. 20/24bit sound w/ upsampling 3. decent headphone out & -good- coaxial out (for future amp) 4. mp3 compatability 5. remote 6. of course, style 7. must be NEW, as i intend to keep this for more than 5 years. it would be great if any of you could help me scour the other forums (a lvls.. gotta study.. ). or help me find out more about the teac, pioneer and sony models. so far i'm mulling over the nad C521i and the denon DCM 380. actually i DID NOT KNOW that the cd6000ose is selling for <$500 here.. i'm a real newbie to getting myself a cdp. prior to joining sgheadphones, my idea of sonic bliss was a sony discman. heh. you all have really really raised the benchmark. and thanks so much guys. you all are great.. really. i actually was not expecting so many replies.
  19. hello all, am buying my first dedicated -higher quality- cd player. no more micro hifi for me anymore! anyway, have shortlisted and am seriously considering the denon dcm-380. http://www.usa.denon.com/catalog/pdfs/DCM380_280.pdf it is abt USD$225, so maybe it'll be $500 max here right? $500 is my budget, anyone know where to get this model at a good price or has recommendations for other models that are <$500? thanks!
