  1. SR60, MS1 are open headphones. They won't block any noise and will be totally useless on a bus. Also, they have this thick cable that's not really travel friendly. Audio Technica ES7 is a good choice. Also, give the AKG K81DJ (or K518DJ) a try
  2. To allow me to ignore TV Mobile (oh, how I hate that infernal device ) seriously... even if my shuffle is out of juice, i'll still wear my K81s just to block out that damned source of noise pollution. I'd rather listen to the engine roar than TV Mobile. I'm seriously considering buying a pair of ear-plugs so that I have a choice to NOT listen to TV Mobile. Did I mention I hate TV Mobile?
  3. For today only, Apple Online Store having a 1 day sale, all iPods on discount, some Macs on discount, some earphones on discount. Senn CX300 at $92 is a good deal, i think. Look it up if you're interested: Apple 1 Day Sale
  4. 1st generation iPod shuffle can't be beat
  5. this must be the first time i've seen *anyone* recommending apple in-ears...
  6. I think the K81DJs are terrific sound quality is good, trebles are crisp and clear, bass is tight after burn-in. they provide enough isolation to allow me to enjoy my music on public transport. The so-called 'death grip' on the head mellows as you wear it, leaving the headphones tight, but reasonably comfortable. you'll never need to worry about it accidentally falling off though give it a try lah to dragonboy: these phones really benefit from burn-in: treble clears up and bass tightens. a fresh-from-the-box set sounds poor compared to a 2 week old burned-in set. There's also the 'curse' of the central foams. removing the foams changes the sound profile dramatically, giving crisper treble and lowering bass boomy-ness.
  7. I got mine from Stereo Electronics, Causeway Point. You can pm him on this forum
  8. My credit card is offering a special offer ($249, UP$299) for this noise cancelling headphone from JVC. Any1 know anything about how it performs? Or is it too new in market?
  9. hmm... aren't the drivers pointing the wrong way? or does the direction not matter at all?
  10. haven't tried the SJ5, but i've tried the SJ3 (similar, i guess). Sound quality wise, it's a no-contest. K81 wins. Comfort wise, SJ3 is more comfortable. Both are supra-aural but the SJ3 comes with significantly less clamp force. on the other hand, K81 can be 'seasoned' to become more comfie. search for advice in sgheadphones or at head-fi. plenty of people have posted about it (or is it mainly me? *grin*) also, this thread probably belongs to the portable forum. can't see any1 using either of these phones for home use...
  11. hey man, great to hear that you're happy with your buy. yeah, the refurb store rox
  12. so many questions... in a word, no. you'll have to give up some of your requirements! Stereo Electronics at Causeway Point and Jaben Network at Adelphi are the places to go. In fact, pls go and bug Aron (at Stereo) and/or Wilson (at Jaben) directly as your questions are too many to be easily answered here. I *know* they'll be able to find something that will make you happy (although it probably wouldn't be what you started with)
  13. Try the online Apple Store. Go to the 'Special Deals' section on the right, select 'Refurbished iPod'. The ones that say 'Apple Certified iPod with Colour Display' should be 4G. btw, even though it says 'refurbished', there's a good chance that you'll be getting a brand new iPod. i've bought stuff from the refurb section before and they've been spotless. i think apple just uses this section to dump old models...
  14. hmm... guess i should defend the K81s a bit. Clamp force can be lessened with judicious stretching. Properly broken in, i'd say my K81s are fairly comfy. Also, i *never* have to worry about them falling off Details comes with 1) removing the centre foams in the earcups, 2) running in. If all you've heard is a fresh-from-box unit, then yes, you'd think that K81 lacks details.
  15. Then people will just think it's a *hidden* bomb heh heh
  16. if you are willing to forget about neckband style, AKG K81DJ sounds like a perfect match 4 u
  17. hmm... more info is needed before we can give out advice: budget - ES7 costs about $200... is that the max/min of what you wanna pay? usage - is it for use at home? or when you go out? do you need it to block out sound? do you plan to use an headphone amplifier? you said u want good looking phones. well... ES7 is a good choice if you like the shiny-shiny. but taste is a very subjective thing As for where to go, Stereo Electronics at Causeway Point and Jaben at Adelphi are the 2 best places to go, try and buy headphones.
  18. ok, i've done a bit of looking around and the Sansa Express 1GB has caught my eye. Any1 have any experience with this? esp the voice recording function... also, where's a good place to go buy it? thx
  19. Hey everyone, I need a way to record voice for a fairly long time (over 30 min). i'm not really keen on buying another DAP that comes with recording function (coz i've already got more iPods than people in my household ), but if i have to, then i guess i got no choice lah. can you recommend something that's small, and cheapish...? alternatively, if there's a way to record using 1G nano, pls let me know too (or maybe i should just buy one of them mini tape recorders?)
  20. SACD = Super Audio CD CDP vs PCDP... how to compare?! it's like asking which is better, PSP or PS3...
  21. clip-ons? Koss KSC75 rules over them all if you don't need any isolation, it's the way to go
  22. hmm... would you rather the 50+ views reply to you "Gee man, I don't know, because you know, i've never had to bring my AKGs for servicing..."
  23. Bluetin carries it and their 'shop' is near Braddell MRT... I think Stereo Electronic has it too. You can pm Stereo (Aron Tan) for more info
  24. on 2nd thots, if you can hear someone else's music, it suggests to me that you are not wearing your mylars properly. i've seen people on buses wearing their canalphones such that they are pointing up, ie, not firmly stuck into their ears...
