Blues 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2003 I've never heard the hd500... but have heard the hd570. I would pick the hd570 for classical. They're supposed to be the sennheiser's classical specialist due to the name 'symphony'
Huma Dragonbane 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2003 ... But I just want to know, which one is better at playing music like edwin mccain or eric clapton? Or classical music for that matter? ... purchase the lastest dishwalla cd ... Woohoo!!! If you like EC's Fender Strat to sound fat, tubey & warm toned choose the one that sounds the warmest & best midrange. Dishwalla should sound great too as they are a guitar based rock band am I correct? I only have one song from them & it's a cover of one of Depeche Mode's song The Policy of Truth (ala heavy metal stylee!). I see. Well for edwin mccain, I love his messenger album. As for dishwalla, they aren't really guitar based. But I do so love their music, it's great. Can't wait to get my headphones, but I'm not looking forward to the emptiness of my wallet for days, maybe even weeks, to come. HAHA.

Mackie 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2003 If U can stretch your budget to about $200, I reckon U should try out Beyer DT931. It's a rare chance to own a very good pair of cans at superb price for all kinds of music.
Huma Dragonbane 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2003 Where can I try those headphones out? What about comfort? Can I use if for hours on end like the sennheisers? How much is it exactly?
Huma Dragonbane 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2003 Just saw the philips HP 890. Should I consider that as well? Is it on par with the sennheisers I mentioned and how about comfort? Thanks. Really sorry for asking so many questions by the way.
Blues 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2003 dt931 is quite comfortable and it uses velvet pad.. so I think you shouldn't have any problems wearing them for hours. Again, you can try dt931 at hung brothers. However I would like to remind you that the 931 is abit on the bright side and thus may/maynot be your cup of tea. Philips HP890 is a fine can for the price, but it can't compete with other higher end cans.
lekguan 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2003 HP890 is also a little bright and has some sibilance. Like ksc35, it is really bang for buck at the price. BTW don't feel shy to ask many questions. We were once like you (and I'm still like you). Asking questions is actually encouraged in the forum, as long as they are not repeated.
Mackie 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 (edited) Where can I try those headphones out? What about comfort? Can I use if for hours on end like the sennheisers? How much is it exactly? Lots of questions there and all can be answered after an audition. Either U drop by my place for a trial or visit Hung Bros. However, mind U local street prices of DT931 is S$399 and Meier Audio sells it on the web for approx $305 (exclude shipping charges). evo 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 don't buy on impulse [the dealers must hate me for saying this] u haven't state where u'll be using ur phones [i assume its indoors from the selection that u have suggested] u also haven't state what equipment u'll be using the headphones with some headphones would perform better with a headphone amp comfort seems to be a priority the 2 senn headphones don't seem to be too popular in headphone circles my recommendations grado SR60 [open] grado SR80 [open] sony mdr-v6 [closed] sennheiser hd497 [open] these are all good headphones to start with what u should do is do more research [on the internet at least, www.head-fi.org is a good start] then slowly u'll should be able to make a wise purchase after reading thru this thread, i think we really need a FAQ for beginners
Mackie 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 (edited) If only Sony Eggos D66SL is still available locally as I can't help but highly recommend it for the price below $100. However, comfort may be an issue for long hours of usage. Well, one just can't have the cake and eat it everytime. N@Z 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 Both the DT931 & HP890 are very comfortable. Obviously the Beyers sound alot better but I didn't find the both bright at all when I tried them on Rameish's Rotel PCDP -> Corda HA-2 amp & Panasonic PCDP -> Clone Grado RA-1. Build quality on the Beyer DT line is top notch. Note: Actually the price for DT931 is approx SG$315 shipped from Meier-Audio The Eggos would be in similar league to the HP890. Based on my memory I prefered the HP890, the eggos sounded a tad bright.
Huma Dragonbane 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 THANKS A MILL GUYS! Have bought my headphones already. After trying out a couple of models. Mainly sennheiser, 500, 570, a couple of the beyer and akg and finally the hp890. Since comfort was an issue, that left me with the 500, 570 and 890. I was relecuctant to even try the 890(namely because it was from philips and cheap), but after putting them on I totally changed my mind and they have yet to be broken in. It was really comfortable. In my opinion they were much better than the 500 and 570. The 500's sound seemed kinda "closed in". The 570's were too bright. Was totally blown over when I first tried the hp890. I didn't even have to console myself by telling myself that this headphones really are good, cause they are. Just perfect for my needs. Plus the stand? It can't get any better than this. And at a superb price. $99. I know it can be bought at better prices elsewhere but the saleslady there was very helpful and patient, so I figured might as well. Though I didn't get a reciept for the purchase....hmmm...And because I managed to save $120 (since I originally planned to get the 570s) I managed to buy the cds I've been meaning too! YAY! haha. Bought a tribute to the beast vol 2 david foster the best of me dishwalla opaline all4one on and on joe satriani the beautiful guitar SAT 1 nickelback silver side up
