kross 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 ya..tat's how a fast recovery diode works...the physics behind it is chiem u guys making the SOHA pcb diy or ask those manufacturers make? count me in too if not too ex. i can help to draw the layout if need to (and not too complicated). 1bit, i did the MHHA. kank_39 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2006 i know kippei and squalle is building the SOHA, how about kross and huangyong? Just a bit of correction. Squalle has finished his SOHA and is already working on a second one, which incidentally... ahem.. would be mine. Anyway I'm no DIYer but i can say after testing the SOHA that it sounds wonderful with my MS-1. There seems to be some kind of bass boost to the signal. Seperation is good and overall, the music sounds more engaging.
huangyong 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2006 anybody built the multi-hybrid amp already? i know kippei and squalle is building the SOHA, how about kross and huangyong? had built one SMHA quite sometime ago. now working on all tube MJ
squalle 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2006 2nd SOHA is declared as done, properly running now listening thru it oh btw, I managed to squeeze the space taken down to 3" * 4" a lot more tidy this time but for my own unit, I think I'll just leave it as is oh yea, how to make the stupid volume pot immune to interference? I've shieleded or twisted all signal wires, but I think that pot was the culprit that caught the interference when I put a fluorescent desk lamp very near but all in all, it's more immune to interference compared to my 1st unit

Just like my PPA. The whole alps is tied to the ground too. ... So fast i haven even started on it.... Edited January 8, 2006 by Kippei
Kippei 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2006 I have a hard time trying it on a horizontal stripboard, while trying to compress the size as small as possible....
squalle 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2006 hahaha told u to get perf board instead come over and I'll help you using similar layout as this one 3 by 4 if the trafo is off the board

kross 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2006 i didn't twist the tube signal wires because i left them very short. but the main culprit is the cheapo vol pot. i jus avoid using them at the max or the min. at the middle range it is quite ok, no FM interference or humming. Kippei, you mean u type the whole casing to main earth? hmm... my psu output only has +/-, don't have ground.
Kippei 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2006 (edited) I mean your pot casing to the circuit ground Edited January 8, 2006 by Kippei
kross 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2006 yup, that i did and it removed the buzzing when my fingers touch the pot. but i still suspect that the quality of the vol pot mightstill be the culprit here, causing the FM interfernece when I turn the pot to max. mabye next time i should get better quality vol pots. too bad this time budget too low. Would rather spent on better caps instead.
Kippei 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2006 My real blue alps does the same thing too. So u roughly guess

Kippei 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2006 I means it doesnt matter it is a good or low quality. My alps is quite good in the sense also got buzzing. So can conclude, pot quality is not a main factor of the buzz
