Wortel 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2003 Well after some more listening I worked out which types of music these like and which they dont. They like girly stuff Slower rap songs is good Fast rock is bad mush Classical is great They leak like nothing else I've heard. My friends can hear whatever song I play. Im quite happy with them for the moment.

Blues 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 If anything, I think AKG 501 sounds alil bit like 880..the super big soundstage, relaxed presentation. But 880 has better bass though. I would say akg is like 880's younger sibling or something.
Wortel 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 I must try out the dt880 sometime Maybe I'll but it next year when I can afford it. I do like the soundstage of the 501s
Blues 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 yeah.. the soundstage on akg 501 is great.. nowadays I prefer bigger soundstage. The bigger and more airy the better. Don't know why maybe seasoned with 880 already.. last time I used to prefer alot of closed cans. Now closed cans are reserved for portable use only
Wortel 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Im going to a mate place to plug my cans into his parents $2000 hifi amp. see if it sounds good. If it dosn't we will just assume it has sh*tty circutry behind the headphone jack
Wortel 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Well I guess it's safe to say my cans don't suck I got to listen to some of my music on the amp. Awesome stuff. Soundstage opened up well. Clarity was supreme. I sould hear every noise from every instrument quite well. The highs were so smooth . Very nice not shrill highs like my soundcard. All the guitars and drums just felt so real. Vocals came through nicely. and the bass... still slighty lacking but a nice kick none the less. My cans are damn good on that source.. Marantz cd changer plugged into NAD home theatre amp. Used my big headphone plug Now I'm back to my computer I dont wanna plug them back in Time to buy a real CD player and get and amp too. My faith is restored
Mackie 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Once again, your experience is reinterating the importance of a good source if better sound quality is sought.
