  1. Frankly, have you tried what "neutral" sounds like? My personal opinion is that you learn more about sonic signatures and this hobby by trying out the headphones and amps alike that are highly recommended in the review section of the forum and reading through the comments on them by the reviewers and others- only then will you be able to make an informed choice with your purchase.
  2. Setting is not changed, but don't know how the new board calculate the usage. anyway, you should see an increase of storage space now. Let me know if you still have problems. OK thanks.
  3. Hi Yotiao is there a reduction in PM space? My mail box which used to be 90% used is full now even though i have not received any new PM. Cheers
  4. ER6i is worn as you would a normal earbud while UM1 is designed to be worn over the ear as the secret service agents (on TV) would. I wear glasses and the cables of the UM1 do not disturb me at all as they are thin, braided and very smooth to the touch.
  5. Thanks for the info. I did not know about this difference in processor/pre-amp in/out-puts. LOL i did have my suspicions that the PM7200 cannot function as a true power amp when i cannot seem to defeat the tone controls when using the amp input. In this config, "direct-in" shuts off the sound totally. So for my case i guess i will have to relegate the 708A to function solely as a headamp
  6. Maybe you can try to get Daiyo's adapter. I have seen it at Carrefour, Best Denki etc. Personal experience ( i have their 3.5mm plug adapter) is that they are of the same price as the generic ones found in hardware store but seem to be of higher QC.
  7. Beautiful and classy- a perfect gift for the special lady friend And it comes with a Sennheiser-headphone-hanger
  8. I have tried the connection into the pre-in of the integrated. This only bypassed the function of the "source-selection" knob; i still need to use the integrated amp's pot to control the volume and when i crank it up to maximum with my pre-amp at zero volume (but switched on), the hum is very clear from both channels. The hum does not seem to increase as the pre-amp's pot is turned up. All along, source is connected and switched on but without any CD being played. What i have done now is to reach a compromise: Without any music on, adjust the integrated's pot to roughly 9 o'clock when the hum is bearly audible. Play the music and adjust the nett volume using the preamp's pot.
  9. A big resounding no! Well, actually that was because the best durian that i have ever tasted was a gift from my relatives who brought them down from across the causeway. The husk itself is a little yellowish-green and the flesh is golden(with a slight tint of brown) in colour. It does not glitter, of couse, but the taste was heavenly.
  10. Paganini: After a Dream from Regina Carter. This recording-which features Carter and her band of Werner "Vana" Gierig, piano, Chris Lightcap, bass, Alvester Garnett, drums, and Mayra Casales, percussion-is the culmination of a fairy tale: a once-in-a lifetime encounter between a jazz musician from Detroit and the most famous violin in classical music, Paganini's Guarneri. I had quite a hard time finding this CD locally: -Gramaphone tells me their last stock available was in 2003! -NVD: Over the phone i requested for "Regina's Carter-Paganini". The reply was that Regina Carter is a double bassist while Paganini is a violinist (in essense he meant: boy, what are you talking about?!) lol. It was not until i told him the album name is After a Dream that he understood. -Finally found the last copy of this album in HMV CityLink
  11. ok. i will try it out the other way of connecting
  12. Other than the smell, how else does one choose a durian? Is the colour of the flesh a good indication of its quality? Someone once told me to try to bend two thorns at the husk towards each other using the thumb and the index finger- the pliability can serve as an indication of the decency of the flesh lol.
  13. Hey Mackie I connected the pre-amp to my integrated PM7200 Marantz. How do we check the imput impedance-using the multimeters at the RCA post? When i hooked them up, i adjusted by ear (can't remember where i got these from, but definitely they do not originate from me : -Source on -keep the pre-amp at vol zero -adjust the pot of the Marantz to slightly higher than normal listening level -turn the pre-amp pot until the music "sounds" louder than what i usually listen at -turn down the pot of the Marantz to suitable listening levels. I don't connect to the "amp in" but rather to the "CD in" so that i can easily switch amongst my sources. However i use "direct-in" which switches off the tone controls etc. When the music is on, the hum is not very noticeable. It is only when i stop the CD w/o lowering the volume and i move close (ear about 2 feet) to the speakers that i can detect the hum. Is this natural with tubes- there is bound to be some humming?
  14. Hey Gahman Nice pics dude. The earmolds look especially unique with the fresh-chilli-red colour. Is that your personal preference or do they only have it in red? Just curious: From the price that Jaben is offering for earmolds, price wise:ER6+custom=>ER4/E4C? What makes you decide on spending this extra cash on the earmolds instead of a higher-rung IEM? Or did Wilson give you a special deal? Frankly, because of this, personally i cannot fathom getting customs unless they are for comparatively highly-priced/flagship IEMs.
  15. I have recently obtained Elvis Presley Greatest Hits CD. Listen to him sing evergreens like "Can't Help Falling in Love" and "Are you lonesome tonight" and i am bowled over-the lyrics seem to come alive.
  16. OT a bit: They also have the Shure/Westone IEMs for trial- wow! When i was there last weekend, they have the White Shure E4C displayed there inviting ppl to try it out.
  17. I have the 708A- stock IEC is fixed onto the unit. When i tried to use my unit as a preamp, i notice some humming noise from one of the speakers when i crank the volume up to listening levels. I am using DIY GY107 as ICs. Maybe they have fixed this in the B-series? Feedback anyone?
  18. Hi A suggestion here: Why not use a computer tuner card (int/ext) to record the stuff you want into the hard-disk. Nowadays, softwares are very user-friendly and it would not be hard to do what u need.
  19. Hi Zilk Personally, i think that it depends on whether u r looking for a headphone/earphone that u will want to use on the go- in buse/ trains etc or one to be used in the relative silence(duh) of the home. The Creative earbuds provide some isolation and thus is more practical for use in the train than a SR60- Actually, i have tried using my ATH-A500 on the underground MRT-yah, some stares, but just as an experiment, y'know -and IMO it is very difficult to listen to the music unless i crank up my source to near max! For me, up till now, if it is SQ that i am after, i feel that for the same price, headphones generally fare better then ear-buds- of course this is in my limited experience as a consumer of headphones/earphones.
  20. Upz to this thread: JANET SEIDEL: comme ci comme ca Played back via the speaker set-up. the accompanying piano sounds realistic A-Mei "Best Hits-Vol 1"-Quite cool to listen to her in her primes. I especially like the ambience in her "live" version of Whats-Up-very happening
