I got the ER-4P and a DIY-ed P-S cable. The ER-4P + P-S cable is essentially equivilent to the ER-4S as they use the same drivers, only the 4S has a higher value resistor in series with the driver. Some may argue that the additional parasitic capacitance from the interconnects may affect the sound, but personally I think it is negligible. Also, more drivers does not immediately mean better sound. Misconception. P.S: I prefer the sound of my ER-4P to my HD650 at times

What a freaky coincidence.. I was researching the feasibility of having a HD650 without amp for my friend. Headfi's consensus is that: The HD650 will sound better than lower cans (unamped), given that everything else is equal. HOWEVER, they will not reach their full potential. So.. since you have to buy, DO IT!

grados give me tinnitus. so needless to say, my grado sr80 are now lying idle (actually they're hanging from my curtain rail)

my pint has never given me oscillation issues of course, there are other people who have experienced such issues, but what i can say is that: if properly built, there should not be any problems with instability
