  1. i think the 6002 is definitely the right choice. In the UK its price is the same as the 540cv2 and the reviews say it's even better... what's your budget for the headphones? any specific requirements (like whether you need closed headphones etc)?

    My DIY Cables

i've bought some gold cable interconnects, really like the sound, it's somewhere in between the two. could I ask, where did you get the wires from?
  3. i guess you could try shops which are familiar with diy tube amps, like well audio or ahfart failing that, i think glassjar can get the transformer for you, though it will add to the shipping cost.
  4. you've got me seriously tempted to get one man...feel like selling my k701, which isn't impressing me very much honestly.
  5. why do you like darths so much?
  6. ok, prince, how would you compare the GS1000 and the HF1 you have? I can't afford the higher end grados but i have a hf-1 and I must say i'm not the greatest fan, and the only thing stopping me from selling is that it's limited edition, if sell then heart very pain. At the same time I've read so many bad things about this GS1000 I don't know what to believe, and I haven't heard it myself. So what, to you, are the myths?
  7. sounds like a contact problem, probably a faulty jack, which is not a big deal really, if you can solder and find the correct replacement part. but yes it shouldn't be happening. is there no warranty?
  8. if you have background hiss only on some tracks but not others then I'm quite sure it has nothing to do with your equipment. I doubt it has anything to do with your encoding to mp3s - as far as I know encoding to mp3s just make the sound less detailed but doesn't introduce any background hiss. short of remastering the tracks yourself, I don't think you can remove the noise. It is indeed wrong to assume that all cds are free from hiss. Old cds especially which are remastered LPs tend to have some. You can perhaps think of the hiss as retaining the flavour of an old recording. Almost all of ella fitzgerald's tracks i've heard on cd have some kind of background hiss, which gives it that 'old recording' feel. Even some new recordings have hiss, and the effect can actually be quite nice sometimes e.g. in rachael yamagata's cd titled happenstance i think the effect is deliberate and i like it. if you really cannot take the hiss, you could just listen with speakers sometimes, which always make background hiss less apparent as petia alluded to. Short of that, make sure you test cds you're going to buy. Very well remastered cds can remove all background noise (Led Zeppelin's remasters - I think the market is bigger here so the quality is better?), the less good ones tend to retain a low level hiss which is still tolerable, but poorly recorded ones can make it quite unlistenable...
  9. thanks for the suggestions guys. the pa-02 looks interesting, but it'll make a 'fat' mini...anyway i decided to strip an old interconnect that was gathering dust to make the mini.
  10. looks like a real pity i couldn't make it!
  11. if you go to any courts or some other electronics shops you can check out the Daiyo line of cables which uses OFC copper, and I think they are not bad for the price. You could also go to LHS in SimLim tower and see if they could make a cable for you. The price should be less than 30sgd for budget cable.
  12. ok i'll check karl heng out thanks guys
  13. Hi guys, i need to build a mini-mini cable. Any suggestions for good copper wire that i can get in singapore? need something with a higher gauge and is flexible.
  14. you can start by looking at the mini3's dedicated webpage: http://www.amb.org/audio/mini3/ has most things you need to know to build it i think...
  15. sorry to OT a little, but where is a good place in sg where I can get chinese classical cds, and maybe some japanese classical ones also? thanks
  16. ya i couldn't the nice thing about the grey though is that it makes it look a bit more subtle, but yeah if you guys are doing it again do let us know. they are very nice panels.
  17. it's down to personal preference i guess...but i also like the skirting (didn't know it was called that lol) because it prevents the base of the amp from making potentially abrasive contact with the table without having to use rubber feet.
  18. looks sweet... but just wondering. why didn't you just connect the cdp to an amp?

    Buy Amp

http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f5/review-po...ompared-214588/ most portable amps are mentioned in it i think...
  20. found this really cool looking 'retro' knob at koba btw thanks mouz and all for organising the front/back panels!
  21. not sure if these 2 shops also do repairs, but they sell tubes. Wellaudiolab in particular also builds many tube amps and, I think, is the most knowledgeable for tubes in sg. Best you give both a call/visit. http://www.ahfartaudio.com http://www.wellaudiolab.com/

    Buy Amp

i bought a xin supermini before but that was a year ago. I still use it though great portable solution due to its small size. However, I've read some complaints on his forum about the long lag time getting longer. Basically, you will get your amp, but only after about 6 months or more...
  23. i still don't understand. lol
