  1. I don't know anything about noise-cancelling headphones, but would commend Stereo Electronics as a good place for you to try. They are located in Causeway Point and carry a good range. http://www.stereo.com.sg/store/nav.php?cPath=1_10
  2. that means you need a more powerful soldering iron. Alot of amb's boards also have this same issue. I got a 20/200W soldering iron you just need to press this button and the iron gets hotter. Press it for like 1 minute and the whole iron becomes red and glowing.
  3. sadly, mine is in the UK...hopefully gene83 will bring his! btw really nice to see that the mods have made peace and both forums are working together. Great job, I may be wrong but I think eventually we should be looking at merging the two forums...
  4. nice casework! how did you cut the square hole for the usb? file? Is your mini3 up yet? How does it compare with the pint?
  5. chanced upon this article: http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol...icle2877291.ece Apart from its review of Led Zeppelin's new collection, it has really interesting information about how the CD industry works and the type of sound they follow... makes me feel like starting an LP collection....
  6. The Graham slee solo 'Green' seems to be very well received in the UK http://rockgrotto.proboards39.com/index.cg...84304561&page=1 Not sure if it's still available, but the thread says offer till dec 07. It's a pre-release model and at 245gbp, I think it's a steal. Would get it if i don't have so many amps lying around... impressions here: http://rockgrotto.proboards39.com/index.cg...read=1188233889
  7. I'd just like to say that we should not try too hard to put an end to threads just because they are unpleasant. dcarter has made his complaint, and we get to hear from the point of views from other's who've had experience with the seller. It's really the same thing as buyer/seller feedback. So long as they don't descend into senseless flaming, such threads are actually very useful. This is after all a consumer-oriented forum and it is in our interest that the credibility of sellers etc are discussed. To this extent I think alot of the criticisms levelled at dcarter have been unwarranted and unfair. And really, shops have everything to do with us, and that's why there are bodies like CASE which protect consumer interests. Not saying that this is a situation which requires their attention, but the principle is the same; dcarter has every right tell us about his unhappy experience. If a shop has treated you badly I would like to know about it, so I can be careful. so thanks dcarter! hope you can get your problem sorted amicably.
  8. do a thorough feedback check to make sure they are not scammers also, ask them about postage to sg, sometimes it can be up to 60usd, which makes it not quite so worth it anymore if they don't mention anything about warranty, you must ask them and make sure it's covered. If any, it will be international so you mustn't mind doing alot of posting if any mishaps occur...Personally none of my headphones have died, though an iem has, so it's better to be safe then sorry otherwise happy ebaying!
  9. surely the moderators could have at least tried to contact Jaben to deal with dcarter's specific complaint, rather then delete his entire account and pretend he was never a customer? Where is the after sales service here? Could just be that the company isn't working closely enough with the forum. Nonetheless, I don't think we can blame dcarter for not bringing this up directly with Jaben. Jaben's own forum, imho, is a very legitimate place to post a complaint about a product you bought from the shop! *that said, I've had some very good after sales service from Wilson. I mean very very good, but I made alot of noise, and kept it private, which is how we Chinese do it.
  10. I agree, if you went direct to the boss it might be better. it's not unusual for forums with a certain agenda to delete posts which are contrary to that agenda. Nonetheless, a hallmark of a mature and responsible business is being able to openly admit its faults and rectify them when pointed out, or be able to defend them publicly if the allegations are unfounded. To this extent, it's quite disappointing that this has happened.
  11. depends on your budget really the 'in' thing now for computer audio is a combined DAC/Amp connected by USB. The thing is that the laptop's sound card is usually a poor source (DAC), so an external DAC will be much better. A good example is the iBasso D1 which stereo carries: http://www.sgheadphones.net/index.php?showtopic=7828 however, as these things are 2-in-1, they are not cheap. The D1 is 300+, which is already 3 times the price of your 590. I'm quite sure that this is a better solution then getting an amp alone though, if you're going to concentrate on using the laptop as your main rig.
  12. curiously enough i've never tried my hd600 with the stock cable. Bought it 2nd hand with the equinox. Wonder how big the difference is... *I've always thought that sennheisers don't get enough lovin' this side of the planet. but this thread goes some way to dispelling that myth!
  13. the mods are documented in another forum with the links here http://www.sgheadphones.net/index.php?show...25&hl=darkvoice i was using a chinese made 6sn7gt and a 6080 miss the tube sound, but the sacrifices just weren't worth it. I must say though the beta22 i've built sounds really good with alot of warmth, though maybe not so lush. if you're into diying you could consider that too
  14. hmv is quite good, but has been consistently shrinking due to low demand. Also, if tower records in suntec still exists, i thought they had a very good collection. My favourite though is borders. Largest classical collection of the lot i think. also, if they don't have the recording you want, you can order it with them (borders). They don't charge for shipping, but considering already high base-prices, I think it's already included somewhere...
  15. well, I used to own a modded Darkvoice336i, which also uses 6SN7s (i think). Nothing peaceful about those! It definitely sounds warm and lush and was great that way. However, the tradeoff was in the details, and (most particularly) the loss of the 3 dimensional headstage that the SS amps I had gave me. Frankly I think you'll always get this tradeoff unless you buy expensive tube amps, or go the hybrid route with diy amp like the SOHA or the Millet, or just get a good ss amp. That said, why don't you go with your current preference and diy the aikido? I'm curious.
  16. that said, it's often recommended that tube amps should be in a well ventilated area e.g. if on a rack, should be right on top. The danger could be to the tubes (I'm no expert here), but also that if the ambient temperature goes up too much, what you could get is the internal components (capacitors etc) getting hotter. The parts are unlikely to blow, but they say higher temperatures will reduce the lifespan of the parts. These are usually parts rated at very high temperatures though, so I don't know if ppl are just being kiasu. If your cabinet is large enough such that the ambient temperature doesn't go up too much, I doubt there's a problem really.
  17. yes nobody should buy anything from digi01. Beware of this fellow, even if some of his pcbs are quite decent, he cannot be trusted. However, I've bought kits and other products from China, and they are fantastic. My twinkle diy amp is actually holding up very well to the beta22, and I still can't figure which one I prefer! iewgnail: I'm still running in my b22, and never heard the millet hybrid. However, I would say that the b22 also has a very nice musicality and warmth, not the tube type, but the MOSFET type. Loving that mosfet smell... price wise they are very different though, and the b22 is harder to build. I faced many problems....thankfully sorted....
  18. wow that's sweet. where did you get it fabricated for free?!
  19. as i own a grado myself i think they're good for all sorts of music, if you like the 'in you face' type of sound. Definitely worth an audition if you haven't tried your colleague's can. You might also want to look at the audio technica a- range of headphones, with the a500 starting at less than 200 (but more than 100). I heard the a950-ltd and liked it enough but was seduced by the woody w1k. If the a500 sounds abit like the a950 i'd say they are good for electronica. that said, considering the huge range of headphones for sale nowadays, i'd definitely try before I buy, and pay less attention to the views of others.
  20. I guess well rated clip-ons could sound just as good, but they definitely won't isolate half as well as a well-inserted iem. So if you'll be using it mainly for portable use, the iem will sound much better. 150's enough for a decent iem i suspect...
