  1. i'll let the pictures speak for themselves - you all owe me one ( ): ROBINSONS DEPARTMENT STORE, KITCHEN DEPARTMENT, ACCESSORIES - 'BANANA HANGAR'. $5. it's near the pots/pans sections. quite near to the escalator going UP too. you'll need to 'unbend' the hook a wee bit though; it's quite tough work - solid steel. i recommend unscrewing the hook first before 'unbenging' because trying to bend it while still attached might be too much strain for the wooden stand.

    Emu 1212m

hi ablaze, i went directly from a audigy 1 to the e-mu. EAC'ed flac files. $332.87. the difference is, to say the least, frightening. i cant point out any particular one part that sounds better - everything just sounds better. imo my very humble setup might just be about, say 70-80% of a $$$$$ setup like cmk's. i use 96khz upsampling. the one fault of the e-mu is that it doesnt support 88.2khz or 176.4khz (direct-integer-multiple upsampling of 44.1khz) that allows upsampling without so much processing (to remove artifacts associated with non-integer upsampling). however the next soundcard up the line that does support such upsampling is the rme hammerfall @ USD$299. also, you might want to note that upsampling to 96khz uses about 25% cpu capacity continuously. 192khz about 55% continuously. my system is a 2.53ghz p4, 512mb ram.

    Emu 1212m

i would recommend jumping in with Zemo's (from head-fi) powerbuy. that's where i got mine from. fwiw, the 1212m is a fantastic sounding source.
  6. hi all, i intend to purchase a set of grado flat pads from todd - but before i do, does anyone want anything from Todd? this way, we can share shipping - and everyone wins. no response.. so offer closed.
  7. a bit late in joining this thread - but i would recommend: rach's 2nd piano conc. the one by jando on the NAXOS (aka cheap ) label is my fav. rach's symp no.2. imo the best version is on emi angel (aka the Great Recordings of the Century Series). chopin's 19 nocturnes by rubinstein are good too - go for the remastered (and slight ex) stereo version on RCA. for string quartets, i prefer the new budapest qtt on the hyperion label - and hyperion ships things REAL fast too. and for dvorak, personally my fav piece by him is the cello conc on dg with rostropovich.
  8. item has been sold.

    HDD experts needed

hi all - i'm pleased to announce that my drive works PERFECTLY now. remember my last post abt the drive working with the cover off? i discovered the source of the problem. the $*&@%$ aluminium drive cover was shorting the soldered pins that stuck out on the bottom of the pcb. i kid you not. i thouught that i had come across almost every single problem a computer could throw at me - but this, this is a new one. i discovered by accident when i tried using the drive with the casing on, touched it, and got a minor electric shock. so what to do? drive out and buy a new usb2.0 casing. using the momobay ux-2. fantastic. and good looking to boot.

    Baroque music

yo yo ma is a artist, he interprets and performs baroque pieces, though his repertoire has a much larger scope than that. this album is an excellent place to start - it's essentially a baoque 'greatest hits' album. $28.50 at hmv. pity you missed it when i was sellign for $16.
  18. analog recordings (the first 'A' in your cd's SPARS rating) typically have tape hiss. anything pre-1990 is likely to be recorded using an analog medium. digital recordings have much lower hiss levels - but certainly not inaudible. EDIT: what i mean by 'typically have tape hiss' is if some post-processing was not done to remove the hiss. such post-processing is done infrequently, as it typically takes some music off with the hiss.
  19. hmm.. interesting mackie. thank you for the review.
  20. all components meant to be placed in a pc are designed to be able to withstand the electromagnetic noise present in a typical pc. i daresay the problem is that of an irq conflict or a driver issue. i had this same problem with a soundblaster live some time ago - try reducing hardware acceleration one notch.
  21. so how blues? i'm only 2 years older than you guys. 'a' levels come in tmw. die liao.
